I remember reading somewhere that the guy who runs all the Goodwill stores pulls a seven figure salary.
I find it interesting that the President of the Boys and Girl club is listed. They closed several locations locally due to lack of funding.
A recent local newspaper article published the salary of a (now former) homeless shelter director at $98K. This upset some people. A follow-up commentary made the point that just because someone works in non-profit or charity doesn't mean they should take a vow of poverty. As fas as this individual, he was typically working 70-80 hours per week and often paying for things like bus tickets to get homeless persons to out of town family members out of his own pocket. I've seen comparisons in which the Commandant of the Marine Corps was reported to make about a tenth of what a CEO of a comparable sized organization might make. I do believe it takes just as much skill and ability to run nonprofit organizations as to run for-profit organizations. Maybe some are overpaid, but do we begrudge Bill Gates his millions? Really Bill, take a cut in pay and reduce the cost of MS Office so small businesses can show a better profit. I readily admit that I don't know what an appropriate salary for these positions should be.
