My point was that the article was neutral and factual about LIberty, but the comments were not, I did not take sides or cast aspersions at Liberty, No need to insult Aspen University on my account. I did find the give and take of the comments to the news article to be amusing. I am totally neutral about Liberty, I did not intend to insult it.

Actually, I'd say most people don't mean this, because they have no idea what they're talking about. I expect the number of American who really understand this country's system of accreditation is awfully small.

I agree. I talk to A LOT of people about education. I'm a nerd that way and many people use me as a resource for themselves or their "adult" kids. I have come across only 1 person who knew anything about accreditation (and he didn't know a ton). Everyone else with whom I have spoken, including college graduates, current students, HR Directors, senior corporate executives, CFOs, CPAs, all know very little. Most understand that a college should be accredited, but they have no idea that there are different types of accreditation, accrediting agencies, or that these agencies are not viewed or accepted as equals in many cases. They have no idea about CHEA or the role of the U.S. Government. Many believe the "government takes care of all that." If a school is calling itself accredited, it must be legitimate. Many others believe that any b&m mortar school is legitimate, but online programs are suspect.

I'm not an Evangelical and disagree with many of their beliefs, but I'm not a fan of being a knee-jerk basher of those who are - even if it's in retaliation for facing that kind of attitude from some of them. There probably are legit criticisms of Liberty U, as with any school, like perhaps in areas of scientific studies but I don't think the whole school is bad because of this. Meh. I look at this way, I strongly believe that some Evangelicals need to broaden their perspective and show some respect and understanding for others but by the same token so should others when it comes to viewing Evangelicals.

I read a really good book about Liberty U a couple of years ago that I would recommend if anyone is interested: The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester at America's Holiest University
