Looking for an intensivepsychology program. One that takes the least amount of time, without being a diploma mill degree but having RA at least. Reason being the Doctorate program i'm looking at requires a certain GPA for having only a bachelor's but is "recommended" if you have a masters. So once again speed + RA, cost does not matter.

I've heard of a college to where you can complete courses at your own speed and complete the degree program as fast as you want to (within X amount of months/years). Anyone else come across this?

I don't think you'll find any self-paced RA grad programs in the USA. DETC has some. Here's one: Master of Science in Psychology - California Coast University

From what i read, being self-paced by California Coast University means you can go slower. Yet it doesnt specify for people who want to go faster. Hopefully someone will be more lucky in their searches :/

    • If acceptable to the doctoral program, you could boost your total undergraduate GPA with additional undergraduate courses.

    • Does a master's degree in this plan strictly have to be in "psychology?"

A possible approach comes to mind through Amberton University. They offer distance learning MAs in Christian Counseling, Family Studies, and Professional Development (this one's very flexible), and solid lists of online courses at the graduate level with "Counseling" or "Human Behavior and Development" designations.

It seems Amberton may also, in their discretion, accept up to 12 sh in incoming transfer credit, which is relatively generous. If you were full up on Amberton courses during a term, perhaps you could work this to also take a course or courses from another school. (WNMU, which has psychology courses in their MAIS program? Angelo State University has an interesting MS in Applied Psychology. Of course there are others.)

i would prefer sticking to the psychology track, as i'm going to be on Vocational Rehabilitation. And they require an argument of sorts of why they should pay for said college. hence, bachelors --> masters ---> psy.d

This is just me personally talking, but I can see solid arguments that a master's in Family Studies or, if you're part of the Christian community, in Christian Counseling, could substantially enrich your preparation for a doctorate in professional psychology.

seeing as im interested in obtaining a psy.d in clinical psychology, although it gives me depth in the family studies area. I'm looking more towards either general, health, or clinical masters program. Just to clarify

I'm pretty sure that Calcoast is completely self-paced.

How long does it take to complete a degree program?

The degree programs offered by California Coast University have been designed to allow students to begin at any time and proceed as rapidly or as slowly as their own time and ability permit. While the University cannot allow students to graduate in less than one academic year (9 months), it is not unrealistic (depending upon circumstances) for a student to achieve that goal. Students are required to complete a minimum of 2 courses per year, and are required to complete their program of study 5 years from the date of enrollment, unless the Registrar’s Office has issued an extension.

CCU is DETC. Northcentral University, although expensive, can be done at your own pace. I think a new class starts each month so you can take 1 or 2 per month.

correct. NCU you can take up to two classes at a time and also 3 or more a time with deans approval.

Call me crazy but I am thinking of getting an MA in psych prior to completing my PhD Applied Comp Sci dissertation and I have looked at NCU's general psych as an option.
NCU is very straightforward in its approach. If you want to take a class, you can literally start this Monday.

The Chicago School of Professional Psychology: MA Psychology (Generalist concentration) online /blended

“The program may be completed in less than two years [or] in an accelerated 11-month format.”

“A number of our programs are taught predominantly online with a small "synchronous virtual residency" component (a one- or two-hour session each term in which all students are expected to be online simultaneously), while other programs are offered in a "blended" format that combines both online and on-campus learning.”

Sadly i've heard of some horror stories with NCU making you take classes that are not otherwise needed, as most for-profit colleges do to some students. This may not be the case anymore, but I'm still quite skeptical with for-profit DL colleges.

I've looked at CSPP and it looks like a well put together program, I was under the impression they required residency. However, I stand corrected. Also in the respect of CCU, so Jonathan Whately you are correct. Thanks for the clarification TonyM.

BTW managerial0550 seems to be what i've been told a shill for NCU, a caution to ryoder.

If you're only looking at RA psych programs, I don't think you're going to find anything faster than the program referenced above by Major56.

One of our former posters, the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Clifton, did an MS in Psychology at California Coast University and he reports that you must take a minimum of one year to officially complete the program.

WNMU has a masters where you could do 50% psychology, 25% Social work and 25% in some other area (business perhaps?).
    Virtual Campus - Online Programs
Low cost for out-of-state students provided you stick with two courses per semester.
    WMSU is RA and B&M.

I have some questions for you to hopefully make you think about your motives and maybe this might help you make a wise decision in pursing your education.

You state that you're interested in a PhD program what requires a certain undergrad GPA for acceptance, but provides further leverage if you have a MA. The question I have is... Does your undergrad GPA qualify you for the minimum requirement for the PhD program? If not, why do you want to rush a masters degree? It would seem to me that the best approach would be to pursue a masters degree and take your time to absorb all the knowledge you can so you can be better equipped when you enter your PhD program. Secondly, why such a rush to get into a PhD program?

You should figure out what your true motives and goals are and see if they really are: (1) Obtainable (2) Manageable and (3) Suitable for your end goal.

    Hope this helps you...

all because I am getting my master's from NCU and I currently work there, doesn't mean I'm trying to suede people into going to the program. I have nothing to gain if you do or not. The program works for me and I've had a great experience so far in my program. I reach out to people to see if they need any questions answered or my first hand experience so far. I apologize for being a nice member on this board

Don't take it personally. NCU is like Microsoft on a Mac fanboy site up in here :)
