hi, I have a couple of "D" on my transcript from the 4 year regular university I attended before, and getting ready to send to TESC, just wondering would TESC consider a "D" as pass of fail? thanks.

    Is a "D" considered passing?

1.5 minutes on the TESC website:

"Thomas Edison State College GPA are based solely on graded credits earned through Thomas Edison State College coursework; regardless of when these credits were earned and regardless of whether the course is used to fulfill a degree requirement. As of July 1, 2011, only grades which reflect earned credits (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D, F, IF, and W) will be used to calculate the official Thomas Edison State College GPA. Please note that NC (no credit) grades associated with Thomas Edison State College Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), e-Pack® or TECEP® will continue to be excluded from the transcript, even if the course start date is after July 1, 2011. Should a student not earn credit, the PLA, e-Pack® or TECEP® will not appear on the transcript. Learn more about our new GPA policy."

saw that too, but did NOT answer my question. the question is that will TESC award credit for a "D" on the transcript from another college. sorry wasted your 1.5 minute, but didn't help.

If I ever need a neurosurgeon, I sure hope he didn't pass the internship with a "D."

Page 167 of their catalog says that D grades are likely acceptable in non-area of studies courses if an overall C or better average is presented. So, the answer is maybe.

Typically, colleges don't accept D grades for transfer credit.

Why on earth would someone want to transfer a "D?"

The following is from page 186 in the current catalog
    http://www.tesc.edu/documents/College_Catalog_2012-2013.pdf

    Policy on d Grades
Students may transfer in or apply Thomas Edison State College
course grades of D to their nonarea of study requirements as
long as their overall grade point average is at least a 2.0, or
higher as determined by the School in which they are enrolled,
    with the following exceptions:
    • All area of study courses must be graded C or better
in order to apply to area of study requirements.
    • All required

Also from page 16 of this catalog:

Students who wish more specific information concerning the
transfer of credit should contact the College at
[email protected]; Attention: Director of Transfer Evaluations.

Maybe because it is a course that the student found very hard or that the student paid good money for tuition. If I had a D I would try to transfer it (or use as part of a prior learning portfolio).
Besides that I have yet to find an employer that asks to see transcripts.

I have taught at four different colleges and/or universities and each of them asked for a transcript. But, in the world of Business and Industry you are right - some ask to see the diploma, some made a call to the university, and some simply took my word that I graduated from the school with the degree.

I'm sure it varies between schools, but in general, what is the least GPA a student can have and yet graduate from an RA school?

A "D" will transfer to TESC if it is not applied to the major course of study and merely allows you to include hours from a class that will serve as means of avoiding another 3 hours for an elective. For required courses, such as English, in a word; NO. This is fairly typical and given the cost of three credit hours, could be a way to save a few dollars.
There are other issues, such as GPA impact, etc but in general, their rules also recognize that undergraduate studies at 18, 19, etc are not always the most stellar grades you'll earn in your career!

To save time and money by avoiding having to retake the course?

got a D in US history, really don't feel like to take it again. but I totally agree with you. I didn't remember a thing I learned in that class. that's probably why i got a D

For the sake of TESC's reputation, I hope they don't accept 'D' grades.

I don't think accepting a D grade will tarnish TESCs reputation. I believe one has to average at least a C grade for UG graduation (true with many, if not most schools).
