Next step is get accepted in to graduate school like Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or UC or Columbia.

UNISA degree is recognized for such .

Then simply tell the ignorant WSU grad, hey by the way I'm in Harvard Grad school.

I think this step is unnecessary.

You can see why I need a good school! At least I had the country right.

UNISA is definitely a real school and not a diploma mill.

Had to comment, in some ways, it's funny and in other ways, it's sad. Clearly, your colleague has issues. Academic snobbery aside, he’s obviously not demonstrating the intellect that aided him in obtaining his PhD. I live in the academic world and there’s always someone who thinks their education is superior to yours but seldom to the degree of being an idiot.
I’m not a Phoenix fan, but most of the newer RA programs such as Walden are fundamentally solid. UNISA’s been around much longer, has broader appeal on an international level, and is well established. Congratulations on your studies at UNISA. The facts support the notion that programs such as UNISA have a strong academic standing certainly abroad but here as well.

My mistake. Thanks for correcting. We are even. You did not have to do that though. You could have PMd me or not put the letters so big that it seemed like you were yelling.

My wife is ABD at Walden and I can attest first hand on how rigorous it is.

Quite a difference in the tuition between Walden and Unisa.

This is the reason I chose a South African institution to earn the PhD.

Back to the original post, I checked the history of WSU and found that it was established in 1892. Unisa was established in 1873.

I know. I know. These things provide the incentive to run every day.

And you will still have people saying that your PhD from Walden is a joke. I would rather do the UNISA degree at less than 10K and pocket the rest.

The UNISA degree would do for most of the positions than a PhD from Walden can do, there is a lot of less explanation to do and some people might feel better saying I am a Walden graduate instead of a University of South Africa graduate but it is not worth the tuition difference.

Just finish it, I wouldn't care what people have to say about it.

Walden just like UofP has become synonymous with DL. When one says that he graduated from Walden, an average person like myself will think straightaway that he got it by DL, owing to Walden's aggressive advertising of their online programs. The same is true with Capella and Penn State. I do not have any problem disclosing that my degree was obtained by DL. But for those who are inclined not to tell, or those who tend to leave it to others to find out, then I would avoid the most commonly advertised ones like UofP, Walden, Capella, Penn State and the like. I would go with something like the University of Memphis or Western Kentucky University:laugh:

The average person has never heard of Walden. One standard deviation above average would consider Walden to be a book by some guy that two standard deviations above average would recognize as Thoreau.

Walden sure is expensive but I would be very proud to earn PhD there. The name is also one of the best sounding in DL institutions.
