There are some very interesting development around the Senior Awards which are considered work based qualifications equivalent to degree levels. They have updated this scheme which is now called Professional Recognition awards and formally accredited by OfQual in the UK. City and Guilds is an Accreditation body in itself by Royal Charter.

This is exciting development for those that want the professional qualification route to show competence at degree level.

They are also streamlining the Engineering Council exams to make the training available through approved centers with courses plus the final exam for each module, its call qualification number 9210. This approach allows you to gain a MEng while still working.

    Question:

Will our awards will be accredited by OfQual in addition to Royal Charter?

Also they are bringing back the portfolio rout.

    Good questions

    1. In some ways, the previous awards should benefit from the accreditation but they have also changed the modules so that could be a factor.

    2. In terms of routes to gain the award, I think it will focus more on the portfolio route especially if you read through the handbook. Maybe, the thesis approach would still work in terms of showing evidence for each module.

    3. I am still assuming the CEng and IEng would still automatically qualify for these since they have similar standards.
