A vice dean at the University of Pennsylvania resigned on Thursday after it was revealed that he had misrepresented his academic credentials.

Douglas E. Lynch, vice dean of the university's Graduate School of Education, quit after having falsely claimed on his résumé that he received a doctoral degree in philosophy, economics, and education from Columbia University.

I love stories like this, especially the excuses that the liars provide:

A spokeswoman for the graduate school at Penn told the Inquirer that Mr. Lynch had mistakenly believed his doctoral degree was complete.

Yeah, and I mistakenly believed I was awarded the Nobel Prize.

It's OK. All he has to do is make a call to Knightsbridge and he'll be all set. :firedevil:

If not there, perhaps some other guy's house will award Mr. Lynch a doctorate.

Hey, honest mistake. Just because he didn't receive a diploma, didn't go through commencement, didn't get a letter, didn't get transcripts with the degree annotated, and didn't finish his degree doesn't mean he isn't a victim of circumstances. Now, everyone turn away slowly and no one gets hurt....

He lied about having a master's, too, which he subsequently completed. The article says he's currently pursuing the doctorate. Now, why would one pursue what one assumed one already had? This is a toughie all right.

I love how Penn kept him on after discovering it, until they in turn were found out. Then everyone dummied up as if it was a Mob hit. Way to go, Penn! (Or was Teller the silent one....?)

I still laugh hard from that thread. I still have screen caps of my chat with them. I MUST post them at some point.
