The registration process for Unisa seemes quite complicated.
I have read and re read all the info on the site.
I have even e mailed them acouple of times.
Each e -mail I have recieved automatic replies with attatchments which dont answer the specific questions .

    For example the study tuition?
    and the physical postal adress
    ect..
Each e mail I have sent I recieved a automatic reply with the same attatchments .

Again: Im an Ex SpouthAfrican living in Israel and wish to apply to Masters in Educational Psychology.

I sent another email (last time ) to all the departments which are more or less relivant.

Is there a contact e mail which would answer specific questions not with an automatic response?
    Any advice?

    Thanx :)

The most common advice you'll see on this site is that using the (free) service provided by Dr. Esselen makes the process quite clear and easy. Read through the site, follow the steps and he'll help with any problems that might pop up. His site is called IACI-Canada.

    Any relevant advise?
    info?
    + another question
Are there any advantages\ dissadvantages to a masters degree with a thesis or MA with course work only (no thesis)?

    Thanx

OK no problem. I'm sure it would be a total waste of 60 seconds to send Dr. Esselen an email asking if he could help or asking if there was another similar organization that covered your area.
    Best of luck.

    Shalom..

Tells me something when a former RSA resident is having difficulties with Unisa.

Unisa is a great school, but without question, getting through the front door is a challenge.

As far as dissertation or not [in RSA it's dissertation for master's; thesis for doctorate] - it really depends upon what the department will allow you, and what you are ready for. A lot of people -- especially from North America -- are simply not ready to do major research and writing. I suspect you are though.

Let me get some specific links and I'll post again shortly.

Here's my attempt at simplifying the process..

    General application information:

Basic information to guide you through the application process

    Unisa Online - Apply

    ------------------------------------

Am I ready? Things to consider

Unisa Online - How ready am I for my master's and doctoral studies at Unisa?

    ------------------------------------

    Prepare documentation necessary for application:

Unisa Online - Important things to consider before you apply

Documentation that must accompany your application

The following certified supporting documents must be uploaded in scanned format together with your application form:

ID document (South African citizens) or passport (international students)

    Marriage/divorce documents (if applicable)

Complete and incomplete academic records (including the scoring legend)

Any other additional documents indicated on the admission requirements

Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

International students – proof of meeting English language requirement

**most importantly, 1. have photo copies of your degree/diploma and transcripts!!

and 2. a photo copy of your passport.

    ------------------------------------

You will need to download and use this brochure, which has specific directions to complete the application (have it open on your computer before starting the online application):

    my Choice @ Unisa 2012
    master's and doctoral qualifications (PDF)

    http://www.unisa.ac.za/contents/study2012/docs/myChoice_Masters-Doctoral2012.pdf

**Go to page 80 for Appendix 2 which will help you respond to various questions on the application.

    ------

Then, the easiest way [anymore], just go to the online M/D application page and complete everything.

    Apply before you register

    ==================================================

This brochure just tells you about the degree programs:
    my Registration @ Unisa 2012
    Master's and doctoral qualifications (PDF)
    All master's and doctoral qualifications

    ===================================================

Don't worry about the research proposal until you are accepted/denied.

Considering their website is so hard to navigate, does UNISA have MA programs by thesis/dissertation? If so, what options do they have?

    Have you even tried?

Have I even tried? If I hadn't, I wouldn't have acknowledged that it was hard to navigate or asked for assistance.... Thanks for assisting me in the discussion.

Seemingly YES for the Magister Technologiae and Master Degrees.

    For instance:

    1. Curriculum: A dissertation only on an approved topic
    OR
    2. Curriculum: A dissertation on an approved topic. The student must also submit a scientific article.
    OR
    3. Curriculum: A research proposal module and a dissertation. Students are required to first register and comply with the requirements for the research proposal module before registration for the dissertation will be allowed.

Thanks major. The ones I were looking at were dealing with leadership or conflict resolution and when I click on the brochure the only thing it shows is the coursework option. I will check further.

I know that lots of people give up on things without really trying. I also know that I've never had any real problem navigating the UNISA website; finding programs, finding costs, finding professors, etc. I even found out how to buy a UNISA t-shirt. My experience with most things of this sort is that someone is typically trying to get someone else to do their homework for them. I'm glad to hear that's not the case with you. If you'd like to ask about a specific Masters program then I'm sure that one of our members, or even me, can help you navigate the website. In any case, best of luck.

My issue isn't so much navigating as I found the MA/MS in leadership but whether there was more on the website that I was missing. The one I found was clearly course based, not dissertation/thesis based, when you click on the brochure. I seemed to have remembered from another thread that there were MA/MS by thesis/dissertation and was surprised when I couldn't find it. I am almost 50% done with my MS in Leadership through Duquesne and I am in the perfect position currently to both do research and work daily with a Ph.D that would be willing to help me with whatever I needed. I am just checking to see what other options there are, especially since I am doing this for enrichment, not necessarily for a promotion of any kind.
