Is one of your lofty goals to amass 9,000+ posts and become the new Distinguished Senior Member?

I'm not sure who this addresses, but if your question was addressed to moi, I’ve exceeded my low aspirations and they never included 9,000+ posts.:shocked1:

    But since you mentioned it……

I have to agree with with the flexibility of control engineering. The only industry that doesn't need control engineers is sweat shops, and even that is slowly changing. lol

for a quick and dirty BSTech.. But I'd want to be accredited by ABET right? Accredited Program Search this list of schools accredited by ABET seems like a good place for me to start picking a school?

    Also

Thank you John Bear, I'll press on. :)

I just put in my app for Texas A&M, hopefully I'll be accepted. Then even if I don't find anywhere faster, I'll still be moving forward.

    Yes, ABET is a given!

You might also take a look at the Big 12 Engineering Consortium's distance program in Nuclear Engineering. I'm not sure about the cost, but it's an inter-institutional program offering DL courses in nuclear engineering from Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas A&M, University of Kansas, University of Missouri-Columbia, and UT Austin.

I just read this news story about 3rd generation nuclear power stations just being approved. Apparently the USA also exports them to China.

He said above that he is 26 and gave detailed background info on work and education. No need to guess.

Significant in that any building permits are approved, but let’s see if they get operating permits. I don’t think 5 or 6 replacement reactors is much of a nuclear renaissance, even if we also provide the engineering design packages for some more in China. Maybe there will even be some progress on the approval of new refineries some day! :happysad:

More than two dozen nuclear reactors have been proposed in recent years, but experts now say it is likely that only five or six new reactors will be completed by the end of the decade.

The once-expected nuclear power boom has been plagued by a series of problems, from the prolonged economic downturn to the sharp drop in the price of natural gas and the March 2011 nuclear disaster in Japan.

"It's clear the nuclear renaissance has been significantly slowed," said Edwin Lyman of the Union of Concerned Scientists, a watchdog group. Lyman blamed what he called "inappropriate optimism" about nuclear power that ignores the huge start-up costs and safety risks.

Allison Fisher, an energy expert for the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen, called the NRC's action — less than a year after the Japan crisis — a step in the wrong direction.

"It is inexplicable that we've chosen this moment in history to expand the use of a failed and dangerous technology," she said.

While other countries such as Germany are reversing their commitment to nuclear power, "the U.S. is approving new reactors before the full suite of lessons from Japan has been learned and before new safety regulations that were recommended by a task force established after the meltdown crisis at Fukushima have been implemented," Fisher said.

I wonder how many nuke plants are on the books now?
