How good does membership to this organization look or does it even matter other than the possbilities for networking with other members? I ask because I have been invited to join this society as a founding member with AMU. Thanks for any input you have. I have checked out their website but I am wondering what, if any, real world applications it may have.

PS I am sorry if this is the wrong place I really could not find an appropriate section for the topic

I'm a relatively new member here and don't know all the ins and outs of this kind of thing, but it seems to me that on a RESUME, anything with the words "honor society" would be beneficial, showing not only scholastic achievement but a willingness to get involved in organizations and activities in general. I can't think of any way it could not be to your advantage.

On my resume, I always have Phi Sigma Tau National Honor Society in Philosophy, even though that and a dollar will get me a cup of coffee----it's not necessarily the practical implications of being a member of anything like that, it's, as I said, your achievement in even being a member of an honor society of any kind, along with your involvement with activities outside your job. This is why employers ask if people play sports. They don't care how many hits you got in your last baseball game, they care about----is this person mingling with others, or staying at home all day by himself or herself.

They like your involvement with other activities besides your work.

All you need on a resume is GPA 3.8/4.0. The rest is filler in the hopes that you have some sort of hob-knobbish north'easterner named Todd who belonged to the same group that will give you a leg up.

Which, when it comes to the job hunt, is not really a bad thing.

Besides you are already a member of a much more older, better traditioned, and worthwhile fraternity right now. Don't dismiss that one out of hand ;)

I would never dismiss leveraging my military background/experience however from what I have heard via RUMINT is that military experience is not nearly as advantageous when seeking civilian employment as it once was.

But how would one know the background of the interviewer.
What if in fact he or she IS a member of that same organization.
Do you think this would hurt your chances?
Or are you saying it would make no difference, it is only GPA that counts.
I was in the Marine Corps and later, the Air Force, and if an interviewer had been in either of those military branches but I did NOT have it on my resume, I just let a possible opportunity go by, thinking my GPA would be enough.
Nothing is ever enough until after the fact.
Just one opinion among hundreds, no more, no less. :)
