Amazing - I got my AA from UoP for a better deal then that! I took one class (a writing class COMM 299) and the reset were CLEPs and credits from the military. Total cost - $550. https://www.goarmyed.com/docs/degrees/UP_AA.pdf

Which one out of those three colleges that you listed above, do you recommended first? I really do want to find another school and I was recently looking at how bachelor program goes up drastically! Right now in the AA program I am paying $1100 a class and then in the BA it goes up to $1700 yikes!

Another reason I would like to move schools is I have never felt 100% confident in saying where I went to school when people asked :/

No kidding. I actually used turnitin.com when my team mate grossly plagiarized her share of the assignment. I was supposed to analyze her work, give feedback, etc. Something about it didn't read write and I googled sections of it and found words verbatim on the net. I refused to do the assignment except to show that 90% of work was plagiarized. I found it offensive that I had worked weeks on mine and she just copy and pasted. I have no idea what happened to her but in our grad program it was a no tolerance policy.

You can respond-- express regret, explain the poor decision making and hope they will slap you on the wrist.

During my undergrad, I had to do a partner assignment with another guy in the class. It was for a global finance course. I had a VERY hard time working with him, so finally one Saturday we arranged to basically work from 9-5 on this final paper/report/analysis.

I was a little light on him because english was not his first language. He was Egyptian-- so fine, I could clean up the grammar, wording, etc.

Except-- he didn't really do any work. At all.

Okay I lie, he put together maybe 3 paragraphs to his sections he was supposed to address (we were basically having to analyze a global corporation's financials, answer some questions, have certain sections). We were responsible for about 5-6 sections a piece as well as a PPT presentation. He spent most of the 9-5 praying or talking to his friends/family or someone in Arabic.

When we left for the day, he told me he appreciated the work I was going to do because women are much better at writing papers, etc.

Well our professor had told us in the paper instructions if someone on your team did not finish their work, you could just insert a white page with their name on it. So I inserted a good 5 pages and then I left his work pretty much unedited because-- seriously I was NOT going to try and rewrite the hot mess he turned into me.

I put in his one slide in the PPT deck and it was obvious during our presentation he had NO clue what we were even supposed to be doing.

I ended up getting a nastygram from him saying I was a hateful woman for not preparing his work and basically doing it for him. He was nothing but a "gentleman" to me that day we worked in the library. He had even offered to get me some water. It was the most hilarious email I think I ever received.

He received an F on the assignment that was of course my fault.

In grad school, any group work done most of the professors used the same philosophy of not penalizing the entire team if one member or others were horrible. I had a few use the following approach : If this project was worth 100k how would you split the money amongst the team and why. I always thought it was a pretty fair and realistic way of deciding things.

THANK YOU for freaking out with me. I thought that got overlooked. Thirty SIX FREAKING THOUSAND dollars. You can get an AA from damn near ANY public community college fully or partially online (98% of them to be exact) , and you'd have an articulation into a state university (also can be done online!). Which, by the way, EVEN THEN after the additional years, is likely going to STILL come in under $36,000.

cost of an AA degree at CLEP friendly Community College $3,000 (scott community college where I teach takes 45 CLEP)
cost to transfer your AA to TESC and finish a BA degree: $10,000 (or your state university $15,000)
cost for a Masters degree at Harvard through the extension: $20,000

    hummmm......3 you decide.

There USED TO BE A TIME when schools like UoP were the only online options, that's not the case now. EVERYONE is online.

Judging from other comments in quite a few threads, it seems that Charter Oak State College has better customer service.

For $1100 you could take about 2 - 4 courses from just about any state university online course selection, and even more courses from many community colleges. That amount of money would also pay for about 24 - 30 credits from CLEP or DSST challenge exams! :saroll:

$1,700.00 you can take at least 3 courses (9 credits) at Fort Hays State University, Peru State College, and even University of Wyoming.

Sort of....the ghost writer worked for a chiropractor who contacted me directly (he saw my school e-mail address on the screen captures). He forwarded me the screen captures and keystroke logs, which I submitted along with my academic dishonesty report. The student was deployed military so I felt kind of bad, but that's just outrageous.

Just wanted to update on this situation, I heard back from University of Phoenix this afternoon with there decision letter. In the letter it stated:

Complete a 3-day Plagiarism Workshop successfully with a Passing score and Review the Center for Writing Excellence Grammar Guide Plagiarism section to complete the Avoiding Plagiarism Mastery Test with a score of at least an 80% or better.
3-day Plagiarism Workshop within thirty (30) days of the receipt of this notice.
Failure to successfully complete the Plagiarism Workshop and present the results of the Mastery Test within the allotted time will result in your indefinite suspension from the University.

I consider myself VERY lucky, does anyone know about the workshop or test?

That's pretty much exactly what I thought would happen. Its a good workshop. Easy provided you take the time. Should be beneficial - even if you already knew the information.

Sounds just like UoP: "Take these extra classes and therefore pay us more money and everything will be fine." You are smart to stick it out though. We may criticize UoP, but no one can deny that it is a legitimate, regionally accredited school and your degree will therefore be recognized and worth the effort.

That's actually harsh....during my Bachelor's program, a classmate got bagged for submitting a paper that was written by someone else, and he got the option of taking a "F" for the paper and a "D" for the course, or doing the paper himself and taking a letter grade deduction (if it was an "A" paper, he'd get a "B", etc.).

But not as harsh as some. I remember one particular alma mater of mine where major plagiarism resulted in immediate expulsion. Smaller infractions were not dealt with quite so harshly.

And I feel that is how it should be handled. Plagiarism is a blatant lack of care with regards to what the overall goal of higher education is. I think the OP is getting off very light.

No matter your personal issue is it does not give you an excuse for cheating. I certainly hope the OP learns his lesson and counts his blessings for being allowed to stay a student at his current school

Doesn't this sound like having to go to traffic school? It is not unreasonable for an offender to pay some sort of fine and that's what this amounts to. Sure there is a class or two involved, but I doubt a class like that would actually do much good. Most serious students know what plagiarism is and how to avoid it. I am amused at how UoP uses it as an excuse to make more money.

My memory is a bit foggy, but I don't think students have to pay for the plagiarism workshop. However, you do have to repeat the course and pay tuition, so I guess it evens out.

Right. Not sure the basis of the comment asserting that this is about money. The workshop is not for a fee.
