ryoder - I would put the program in the classical camp.

Gau555 - the GRE was required. In fact, now I have to take it again for my PhD program since it has been over 2 years since I took it last. :)

    Hi all,

Just a quick update. As a result of my nearly-completed degree in applied economics through the University of North Dakota, I have scored an interview with Citibank for a position in their fixed-income trading department. If a major international financial institution does not have a problem with a distance learning degree, I can't imagine anyone else would.

Jcummings, your updates have been the MOST helpful. Finally the world is catching up and starting to deflate the value-myth of brick and mortar. Coming from a small country whose top Univeristy doesn't have an Economics graduate program, distance study is real a door opening.

I really hope you get the job but being called back for an interview implies that they saw the degree as a benefit!

Congrats on your near completion :)

Final update on MS in Applied Economics at University of North Dakota

Well, I just finished my last exam in the MS in Applied Economics program today. All that's left is to finish my thesis on the application of genetic algorithms to the optimization of the GARCH model. The program has really been terrific. It has been challenging, especially with three kids and a full-time job, but extremely rewarding as well. The only downside in the program, IMHO, is that communication from the administrative staff with the university can be a little slow and incomplete (for example, like what's still needed to officially graduate). But overall, I would give the program and faculty an A.

Congratulations, jcummings. I'm looking into this program after completing my bachelors in the fall.

Thank you ver much Jcummings for your valuable updates on the online MSAE degree offered by UND. However I have a few questions about the program which I need to clarify before I apply.

Firstly, thesis is part of the program. However for writing a thesis I will have to refer to number of research papers to see what others have done.I stay out of the US and in my country, college and university libraries are not very resourceful as the ones in the US.Will I get online access to UND library for completing thesis?

Secondly,do they need recommendation letters while applying? In one of their online chat sessions, their representative informed me that no letters are required. However they don't specifically mention that letters are not needed for online program.Apply now button leads to grad school webpage which states that recommendation letters are needed. This is confusing.

It would be really helpful if you help me with these.

    Thanks and regards,
