    Thus beginneth the lesson...

Okay, people, listen up . . . Since I'm retired fro the distance education biz, I have neither the time nor interest in following this up, but it's a good trick (as opposed to truck, which I still prefer).

http://www.superpages.com is the website of good ol' Verizon. You can surf to reverse listings for both residential and business phone numbers - you enter the area code and number and, if it is listed, you will get the directory listing.

Reversing the phone number on Madison's website, we find that it is listed as:

    Madison University Distance Education Corporation
    2301 14th Street, Gulfport, MS 39501
    (228) 868-1010

So that is where their actual phone is located.

Now, for the truly industrious, here's another trick: Call the local fire department for that area of Gulfport. All fire departments maintain a directory of addresses in their area, and they will be able to tell you the type of location - whether the address is an office building, home, or other type of building. (This is how I found out that Canyon College is located in a home rather than a professional building.) When you make such a call, be sure to tell the fire department at the beginning of the call that it is not an emergency - it's the nice thing to do - and call them through a local number, not through the 9-1-1 center in that area.

So, for those who have the interest in following this up, thus endeth the lesson. ;)

    John:

I know which magazine it is.. While coming back from CA after my graduation ceremony at Touro I saw this advertisement ...

If it is ok with you, can I state the name of that magazine in this board?

John: Well I think that Madison advertises in quite a few of the airline magazines, among others kinds of magazines, so even if you saw their ad, that would not necessarily be the magazine that is booting them.

(One issue here is that, as I mentioned, the magazine feels obligated to keep running the ads until the present contract expires. It is possible that Madison will not even be informed of this decision until renewal time is closer; I don't know when that would be. At it is also possible that the magazine will change its mind, as USA Today did, after stating very clearly that they would be changing their policy to run only ads from schools with recognized accreditation. Their advertising standards person was presumably overruled by management.)

    Steve,
Your idea is brilliant! Local fire and police departments would definitely have a directory of addresses for areas they service. The municipality is required to give each department a detailed description of each facility and structure in the event of an emergency.
Better yet, if someone lives in the Gulfport area, visit a local fire station. Each station has a descriptive map of their "running area". The map will show you whether the address is an office building, a school, a home, a shopping mall or a tavern.

And herewith the list of the Gulfport Fire departments

    http://www.ci.gulfport.ms.us/fire/

I have run a couple of map search on three of them that have the same zip code, and found that:

    2324 25th St.

    Gulfport, MS 39501

    (228) 863-3347

is the closest one to Madison's address. About 1 minute away (1 mile distance) by car.

    :D

At www.melissadata.com, you can type in an address and find out if it is residential or commercial. Keep clicking and you have access to demographics and the political contributions made by people in that neighborhood.
