Below are some certification and education program combinations I'm looking at. My wife doesn't think I need anything but if I was to go for something, she said go for the MBA. I just want to stay employed and up-to-date.

I would see these are great options. I would not get a degree/certificate in Project Management since you have a PMP.

Master of Business Administration – Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO 2014
Masters of Science in IT Project Management – Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 2014

    What is your background/interests?

You have PMP and a Grad Cert in Project Management. I would stay away from anything along those lines. Some areas worth considering, which in my opinion would add powerful credentials to your degree/education portfolio, is in the area of engineering management, industrial engineering, operations management, quality/six sigma, supply chain management, Business/finance etc.

The new Supply Chain Management MS from the University of Wisconsin (program details available in October) might work. MBA in Finance, from a top school, is also worth considering. Geographic Information Systems might work also, but having too many grad certs, as opposed to moving up to a doctorate, may not be a wise strategy. Something like a doctorate in Industrial engineering, operations research or engineering management would be nice. Goodluck with deciding...

If you're not in your early 20s with no job experience to speak of it doesn't really matter what schools or school combinations you have so long as you're not going to obviously online schools with generally questionable reputations.

If you are a mid-career professional your experience gets you the job as long as nothing on your educational transcript screams "mill" or "questionable". Any of your proposed paths will work and I can actually see the Stanford or Ivy names recently placed on a working professional's resume as meaning the candidate lacked confidence enough in their skills to need to shill the name of a school that teaches the same curriculum everyone else does.

The last truly savvy PMO head I met had a masters in computer science, bachelors in history and a PMP with 20 years of progressively responsible project management experience.

Some keywords to add to Cyber's fantastic list: Business analysis, data mining, program management. Accounting? Essentially alternate names for some things already on Cyber's list: operations research, management/decision science, systems engineering.

I would agree with most of replies, stay with MBA in Management because one day you don't want to manage project, but more being leadership and managing people.

University of Arkansas is a good school. The OM program seems decent too, considering that the areas suggested are actually offered as courses within the program. If you feel good about it (I do), then go ahead. If getting an another grad cert is also of importance, I would add something along the lines of Finance (finance and operations is a good background for becoming a VP) to broaden my background (the higher up you go in a company, finance/accounting and high-level business competency become even more valuable). By the way, have you searched through geteducated.com as suggested by Shawn? It's a very good resource for weeding through program options.

I have a PMP and an MS in Project Management, and I'll opine that the PMP/PMBOK covered only about the first introductory course in project management, so there isn't much overlap between the two.

I work for Boeing and Boeing has tuition constraints and a preferred list of schools that we are allowed to attend. For example the University of Arkansas is not a preferred school. There is a way around this but I would have to go through a lot of red-tape to make it happen. I have looked at the geteducated website. Boeing has around 250 schools on their preferred list. However a lot of the schools do not offer online degrees. Colorado State University is the only AACSB on the list that I probably would attend for a MBA because is does not require a GMAT and it seems geared more for someone like me. I like the curriculum of the program CSU Online Plus - Requirements and Plan of Study | Business Administration | Master's Degree | Online & Distance - Colorado State University. Why I like about the MBA is that it is universal outside of project management. I'm also pretty interested in the MSPM at Purdue because of the curriculum and 8 week terms. The MSOM at U of A also has 8 week courses. The highest ranked school I'm looking at is Washington University here in St. Louis. I would have to attend classes on the ground for their MPM.

If Washington University - St. Louis is on the preferred list and you live in the area, to me it's a no brainer. Do what you have to do to prep for the GMAT and apply to Wash U. It's a top 20 business school. If that doesn't work out, then I'd look at some online options.
