I will be graduating in April of 2012 with my Bachelors of Arts in Management Information Technology. That is about 8 months away. I want to "jump" right into my Masters program without wasting any time because if I quit, I know I won't go back. I would like to earn a degree with an emphasis in business and technology. I found this graduate program while searching online.Master of Science in Project and Systems Management - Project and Systems Management - Academic Programs - Golden Gate University
Can I.T. professionals give me some feedback? I just want to know if this degree will be useful in today's current market and would it complement my BA.MIT.

    Thanks!

  2. My personal opinion is that it's somewhat duplicative to your BA in MIS program ("The Master of Science in Project and Systems Management gives you a broad base of skills information technology systems, operations processes, and project management").

As you now have the technology portion why not just get a MBA + PMP certification if you are interested in project management? Note that this MS degree will not by itself allow you to sit for the PMP exam, which requires:

■A four-year degree (bachelor’s or the global equivalent) and at least three years of project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.

    OR

■A secondary diploma (high school or the global equivalent) with at least five years of project management experience, with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.

If you already have the PM experience in leading/directing projects then you just need 35 hours of PM education which can be found elsewhere much cheaper than the degree you're considering...

Thanks so much for your response. I've always considered doing an MBA.IT and obtaining a PMP certificate in the long run and I also thought about enrolling in a Software Engineering certificate program. I just want to make sure that I fully equip myself with valuable credentials because I've heard that it can be hard for someone with no I.T. experience to enter the field even with a Masters degree.
