    Hey guys,

I have been in the undergraduate business degree program at Ashford for a while. I can't wait to finish and start my MBA. I really like Ashford and might continue my educational goals there. It's just taking a while to finish my undergraduate degree. Im almost done getting all those general classes out of the way so I can start the business classes. This is what it's saying on the front page of my portal.

Your estimated completion date is: 5/5/2014

I can't wait to finish. I have been trying to reach my advisor for 2 days now, I'm guessing she is sick.

My question to you all is:
What is the criteria needed to "double up"?
How many times can I do it in an undergraduate degree program ?

    Regards, John

Sounds like it's going good for you. I would find out what their test policy is. You can go knock out AIL for 6 credits and there's a bunch of other test that are super easy. AIL is by far a no brainer. There are other things you can do to if they take ACE credit, ALEKS, Strighter Line..etc.

Well with general credit courses I think I am almost done with them. Right now I guess the only thing I can really do is trying to double up. I am not very familiar how these outside programs work like the one's you mentioned. Would I be able to finish this degree in a year or a year and a half ?

I think if you work your arse off you could. You would need a lot of cleps and dsst.

    degreeforum.net is for great clep/dsst

If you know the subjects fairly well, you can test out of them. The standard test takes about an hour and can be worth 3-6 credits (most of the time it is 3).
Check out these sites but check with your school to see what they accept.

If you are a good test taker and have some prior knowledge of the topic you can greatly reduce the time and cost of a degree. I was able to knock out much of my BS through testing in just under 2 months.

There are two basic premises for doubling up at Ashford. They are 1) that you can handle it and 2) that you can afford it. I would suggest what the others are saying and look at testing out of some classes.

I started at Ashford with 65 transfer credit hours from Illinois State University. While I started with the basic classes that I was missing, I started taking CLEP tests for personal economic reasons and to speed up the process for getting the basic classes out of the way. I also took 6 CLEP tests in 3 months and accumulated a total of 22 credit hours quickly. I also doubled up on classes either 3 or 4 times later on (I do not remember exactly which one now). In any case, I went from 65 hrs. to graduation in a total of 15 months by doing it this way.

The premise of being able to afford it really falls under the category of financial aid. They will not let you take more classes than you have the money for, unless you want to pay for it yourself.

I don't use financial aid and pay for all my classes out of my own pocket already, that is why I wouldn't mind doubling up. Price is no object at this point I just want to finish faster. I just spoke to my advisor, she told me I have finished all my general education classes and all I have left now for the next 3 years are business classes. She also told me I can only double up 4 times in the year. So if I double up 4 times a year it means that I will save about 20 weeks each year.

Besides doubling up and besides the clep test which I cannot take because I don't have any general education classes left can I do anything else ?

Also on a sidenote, I was speaking to my friend who has done research about these stuff, he told me around the time when I am going to graduate Ashford will go in a process of re-evaluation and might lose accreditation. Is there any truth in what he's saying and if this happens what would this mean for us students ?

Actually now that I am looking, I have all my elective courses left. I would be interrested in doing the french language clep tests, can they be accounted as elective course credits ?

analyzing and interpreting lit is easy. Its six credits and I doubt you will fail it. If you can read a story and understand what's going on you will pass this one.
