Started Nov. 2009 - finally completed! Degree conferral 8/15/2011.

I spent the last four months procrastinating, and procrastinating, and barely working on my thesis. I have repeatedly vacillated between thinking I had a decent thesis, and thinking it was a pile of crap. Then I actually wrote it, and it still ended up a pile of crap, but a passing one.

Maybe it's only halfway crap. If you're interested in flying on Saturn's moon Titan, I might have a few suggestions.

Next, I'm planning to get a second Bachelor's (IT) and then another Master's in CS or Engineering. Or I might just spend a lot more time with my wife and son.

    Thanks, DegreeInfo!

    Congrats!

. . . looking forward to the day when I can say the same (plus or minus Titan visits).

Hi Malcolm - Congratulations on your accomplishment. I just took a peek at the curriculum for the degree and even though it's described as being interdisciplinary it appeared to be primarily an engineering degree. Did I get that right? I would be curious to hear how you and your classmates intend to use this degree. Anything specific?

Kizmet, it isn't quite a "real" engineering degree, though the Aerospace concentration does focus on the "Rocket Science". Actually, I had originally enrolled in the Planetary Science concentration, but was put off due to the length (16 weeks) and the scheduling for all of those courses.

Here are some possibilities I have considered for using the degree:

    1. Just having a Master's degree. I think pursuing this program has already benefited me even though it is unrelated to my current job in IT. I work at a college with lots of folks who have graduate degrees, and having one gets me "in the club". Does that sound cynical?
    2. Getting 18 credit grad certs and being able to teach different subjects at the undergrad level.
    3. Along with my background in computers/electronics, using it to work for an aerospace/defense company.
    4. Teaching high school science.

I know of one classmate who is a self employed engineer, and I think his plan was to get the Master's to expand and increase the credibility of his business. A number of other students had engineering undergrad degrees and were active duty military. There was another guy who worked for the European Space Agency, but I'm not sure exactly how he expected to use his degree.

As it stands now, I am happy with my current employment as a database admin/programmer for a 2-year tech college. At some point, I intend to try adjunct teaching of CIS/IT in addition to my day job. By itself, this degree doesn't really help with that. But it's fun to tell people who ask what I have studied, "oh, nothing too challenging... just rocket science."

Outstanding accomplishment!!! I’ve always liked the name American Military University …

Besides I’m a little biased, e.g., a Marine (James P. Etter, USMC, Ret.) started the university back in 1991. Have a wonderfull 4th of July! :usa:
