So come heck or granola I'm not voting for Obama in 2012. The econmy sucks, inflation is out of control, unemployment is still above 9%, gas is $4+ a gallon, we have 3 wars that are being ignored and everyone in D.C. is playing slap fight with the solvency of our government. It's a huge, huge mess and even though I do not blame Obama individually, we need a strong centralized leader to get some manner of control over this.

Here's the problem though, Huckabee looked like a solid guy (maybe that's why he doesn't want to be President) but he's out. Romney is as uninspiring as he could possibly be and the Romneycare mess he started in Mass. is the very template Obamacare used. On top of that Newt agreed on Meet the Press that mandated health insurance was a good idea...so I can't vote for either of those idiots. Then we have Ron "running again" Paul who is so far right field he's sitting in the upper decks.

Is there any Republican potential for this upcoming election that maybe I've missed? Surely there's one...

    Nope.

There are a few others that might be interesting, but they are completely unknown outside of their own state and Washington insiders, and are polling in the LOW single digits. If front runners like Mitt (and even Newt) can suck up a bunch of money from the potential donor pool, the campaigns of most of the unknowns will be over before they even start.

I predict that Romney will be the candidate, in large part because I think a lot of Republicans wish that they had sent him up against Obama in 2008 instead of McCain. I also think that, now that Huckabee is gone, Mitt and a few of the unknowns are the candidates that Obama LEAST wants to go up against.

Anyone remember the '96 election (the first one I voted in). I remember that in '94 Republicans were lining up to take out Clinton because everyone "knew" that he would only be a 1 term president. Yet when the election finally rolled around he crushed his Republican contender. If Obama can create at least a perception of economic improvement between now and 6 months before the election then he is a shoe in for a second term.

I think they've been trying to create the perception of economic recovery for over a year now. The problem is that the average consumer knows it isn't true every time they fill up their gas tank or go to the grocery store.

Investors are also taking a heavy toll on the economy. Simply put a lot of people have refused to release money because they do not like or do not trust Obama and his policies.

Mitt Romney reminds me of George Bush Sr. and that's not a compliment.

As for beating Bill Clinton back in the day...wasn't it Bob Dole running against him?

You might like Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico. As for who's in the lead, who cares? At this point last cycle everyone knew it would be Rudy Giuliani vs. Hillary Clinton.

Well, apparently Trump is out. Darn. I really wanted him to win just so he could say "Obama, you're fired." haha

I've seen polls about Sarah Palin, but I don't think she could be a major contender.

At this point, Sarah Palin's special needs son should be able to beat Obama.

    That wasn't very polite.

As for Sarah Palin, I think she's been too effectively marginalized to be effective. Everyone will see Sarah Palin but hear Tina Fey.

It certainly wasn't rude. Personally, I feel a three year old with a mental handicap would likely perform better in the White House than our current President.

For peat’s sake … lighten-up. I thought it was funny. I certainly understood the analogy the poster was making; and it didn’t have one thing do with being derogatory as regards special needs children.

Obama may look easy to beat, but remember that there's a big difference between President Obama and Candidate Obama. I haven't heard of a GOP candidate yet that would actually get anyone excited, he gets his base really excited.

Too bad that three year old has to wait an additional thirty-two years before meeting the constitutional age qualification to become president.

Hey, if someone with questionable citizenship can be elected then I'm sure we could doctor up some papers for Tripp! A little makeup and BOOM! He's a really short 35 yr old. (now all you raging liberals calm down. I was making a joke. I'm fully aware Obama is a citizen....I think).

Good I need Obama to get re-elected so the health care reform stays in place until 2014 barring either a massive shift in the Senate and House enough to assure overriding a veto OR the courts overturning it fully - both unlikely. I don't care about the rest of it I'm voting solely for those most likely to keep the law in place the Democrats this includes Obama. So my votes are locked in regardless of who runs in those offices. I tend to vote both parties but this is to important to me to do that this time.

I would say no one has a decent chance against Obama unlesshe really screws up.

I'll vote for anyone who pledges to repeal healthcare, retire the department of education and basically dismantle half of the federal aparatus and flatten taxes. 10% flat tax for everyone, rich and poor with no way to weasel out of it like the rich and poor always do. 51% of the united states residents who file pay no federal income tax. This has to stop. It should be all that file pay so that we dont run up huge deficits year after year.

The societal leaches will come out in 2012 in an attempt to save that ridiculous (and unconstitutional) healthcare law. Hopefully people that respect the Constituition will come out in greater numbers. Any court that actually followed the Constitution would strike down the Healthcare law in an instant.

Ryoder, I'd be all for a flat tax OR a federal sales tax in conjunction with the elimination of federal income tax. It will never happen, but it's nice to dream. It's a shame what our society has come to. Punishing the successful among us while those that contribute nothing take advantage of every entitlement program they can qualify for.

right, because that extra $ 2 700 per household would really add up and lower the US deficit !

File:US county household median income 2008.png - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

lol at the poor weaseling out of paying taxes

    those who contribute nothing ?
like Mark Zuckerberg who made facebook ?
oh no, my mistake, he's a billionaire who's contributed so much to society

or how about the new york yankees ?
    $ 196 000 000 team salary

    thank god for their contribution

we're all so much better off because of them

"For top bankers, eight-figure payouts are once again the norm. Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs, took home about $14.6 million in 2010, $12.6 million of it in the form of a corporate shares-based bonus. His pay package is about 340 times the median US income of $43,000."

Record Pay for Wall Street Executives in 2010

I thank god every day for Lloyd Blankfein
if it wasn't for him ... well ... uh
well I know he's contributed something
he must have if he's bringing home 14.6 million !

I cannot believe the stupidity that's being posted by a bunch of people who pride themselves on being educated

I grew up poor, I mean dirt poor
we got government cheese, government surplus powered milk, government surplus powered eggs, free school lunches

and thank god we did, because that's all we had to eat

my mother worked her ass off because my father was a drunk who spent most of the time in jail, never brought home a dime and when he was home regularly beat the shit out of my mother

"taking advantage of every entitlement program they can qualify for"
    what a bunch of idiots
