Sounds like an artificial fitness indicator.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. "Hey ladies! I went to college! Good mate and/or father material here!"

Universities often have special ceremonies attached to getting the ring. For example Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M all have special ring ceremonies from the alumni association.

I hope that's not true because any girl who ever went to college knows that there are a ton of losers with college degrees.:eek:mfg:

Sure, but while you don't need a degree to be a winner, many of those guys might be even bigger losers without one.

I have two as well. A Formula One and a Monaco (Vandy graduation gift). I wish they did a Harvard Grand Carrera.

It's often said that the only people who wear college rings are those who you wouldn't have guessed had gone to college otherwise.

That's my plan as well... An undergrad ring is like a HS ring and since mine has been in a box for the past 20 years, I just can't see doing the same thing for an undergrad ring. The rings that I do wear now are a wedding band and a Masonic insignia ring ...

I keep meaning to ask you about that. I kind thought thats what your name was. I am in the process, they are doing my background check right now and I have done two out of my three interviews.

I have the official college ring of the University of Arkansas. It's made by Jostens, and they do check with the university to make sure you are a graduate before they will sell you one. It's a unique, traditional style ring. The top is metal featuring the north tower of Old Main with beacons emitting from the tower. It represents the last strain from the alma mater, "Beacon of hope in the ways dreary lighted, Pride of our hearts that are loyal and true. From those who adore unto one who adores us, Mother of Mothers we sing unto you.” At football games at Razorback Stadium, it's tradition to point to the north tower of Old Main during that strain. One side of the ring features the walkway called "Senior Walk" through the maple trees leading to the front entrance to Old Main. The other side features a Razorback jumping through the letter 'A'. Only those who hold graduate degrees are permitted to have the letters of their degree conservatively inscribed on the "Senior Walk" side.

I’m sure you can tell that for me the ring has great sentimental value because of the university and traditions it represents. Since 1904 I believe, the University has inscribed the name of every graduate into the sidewalks. The ring side that features Senior Walk, has maple leaves on the walkway, and lines representing the names of her graduates. My name is down near the college of engineering.

Class rings are not so common in the UK, but many of their US students were asking about one, and they decided to approve one.

Our own Dr. Bear was involved in the making of this ring, if I recall correctly. Myself, I went with a necktie with the university tartan and Heriot-Watt's scotch whiskey.

The jeweller that makes the H-W ring makes them for a handful of other UK schools, though not, unfortunately, Strathclyde, where I hope to attend. Perhaps the "place of useful learning" disdains such impractical items...

I'm passed 40, but I really wanted a college ring, especially since I could not afford to attend the graduation ceremony. I'm not quite used to it yet, although I only ordered a medium sized ring. I have to take it off from time to time. ... :)

It's never too late to get a college ring! I never wear mine. I wear it maybe once or twice a year to church. LOL

    Hi

I got mine right when I graduated, at 47 or so. There were about 50 designs available. I didn't want some great doorknob like a high-school ring (which I never bought) so I got a very small gold one of a type popular with nursing grads, but available to others.

I've worn it daily for 21 years. Nicest thing I ever bought myself...and I'm GOOD to me! :veryhappy:
