My History teacher messed up and for my final grade he gave me a D when I earned an A. Well, it does not look like they will even get to this until after the 1st of the year if they get to it at all. I am so fustrated I want to scream. He realized his mistake and now it is going from dept to dept and it seems they are all on Christmas vacation until the 3rd. Anyone else experience this? I wonder what I need to do if they do not change my grade, who do I need to go after? I worked hard and this D has messed up my GPA and now I am on academic warning. Thanks for letting me vent.

Well, you need to contact your Instructor. Do you have any evident that you earned an "A.?" If so, then prove that to him/her. Then contact the registrar/academic advisor. You always check for grade record after every single semester. In fact, I check my transcript twice a month to ensure my grades are accurate.

Actually, if the professor is working on changing the grade in the system, I don't think you have too much to worry about unless you need to send your transcript anywhere any time too soon. Heck, I'd freak out too, but as long as YOU stay on top of it, and your professor is honest in his mistake, I think it will eventually work out just fine.

Out of 600 points I got 597, that is on blackboard and I have the e-mail from the teacher saying I have an A. He then contacted the History Dept admin asst and she has the get the Dean to sign off and then hand it off to someone to change the grade. She gave a date on when it would be changed, that date has come and gone. Now I cannot get a hold of anyone. I will still get my student loan for next semester since I have I have always been in good standing. They have to make this right even if I have to make them sorry they ever heard my name.

Forgot to mention, that the teachers at UAA can only enter a grade in once. They cannot change a grade once it has been entered. This would simple if they could.

That sounds like a pretty stupid system. I find it hard to believe that someone with higher access privileges than the instructor could not change the grades. I would bet that once you get the administrators or the IT guys involved, you will have no problem getting it changed. At the school I work at, I can only enter and change grades until a few days after the semester ends, after that, it's locked out. However, when I make a mistake, I go to the principle of our school, who has higher access privileges than me, and he changes the grade. I would assume that most grading systems work that way.

Also, I would assume that this would look bad for the instructor and I would be surprised if he/she just leaves you hanging. This probably will get fixed after Christmas break. Keep us informed.

I had this happen to me a while ago and after I contacted the instructor he contacted whoever and it got changed, but it was not around a holiday! I would bet that by the time the holiday is over it will be changed as soon as they get back. Unless you need a transcript right away I would try not to fret until a week or so after they come back from holiday. Even with financial aid and such you can always get a letter from the instructor stating his mistake to show them until the grade is changed. Good luck and hope it gets changed!

I too think it is stupid to allow an instructor only one opportunity to enter a grade. That is the University of Alaska for ya. I will not panic until after the Holiday. But I am sure fustrated with them right now.

I understand your frustration, and you're not wrong, but it really does seem like things will be corrected, so if I were in your situation I'd just have another glass of nog and wait for the new year.

This happens all the time. I turned in grades today and there is no way that I could get a grade fixed before January.

All changes are locked out for a few days while the registrar processes the end of the semester. Faculty typically disappear after grades are submitted until about a week before the next semester. The entire university in my case will shut down for two weeks for Christmas break.

A grade change typically requires the signature of the department head and dean, before it goes to the registrar. They also tend to be scarce around this time.

If your instructor is on it, don't worry. It will get fixed.

It is not an unusual system and, trust me, not limited to the University of Alaska. Governance is the reason and different schools enforce governance differently. This is not an IT issue. The technology system is enforcing the business rules it is designed to enforce.

All the people that need to know about this know, and I am sure it will be rectified. But I do understand why it is frustrating.

Give the professor time. It is an easy fix, it just takes time. It will be fine....honest! The system takes time. If the professor has agreed to fix it, it is a done deal.

    1) this happens all the time, at least one issue per dept/term is my rule of thumb...it happens. Especially when the blackboard/moodle/etc (lms) doesnt export or import into the registrar system.

    2) sometimes the chain of command needs to review why the error happened. I recall one great issue where the person used an all multiple choice exam but gave the scantron machine the wrong grading key.

keep up the fight, but be cheery about it....

Sorry to hear this happened to you... Hang in there. Sometimes professors make mistakes. For example, I recall making a mistake back in the year 2002. However, I haven't made any mistakes since then... ;)

Hi, I am College student and one of my professor doesnt like me for any reason, at the beginning of the class she made me to do my assignment several times without explaining what is the problem with my projects, just she scratches my projects, then I approached her and asked her what is wrong with it? and she took me outside and humiliated me (Im immigrant) and she kept saying that Im the teacher not you, and if you are not happy with my grade go back your country and fix things, however, I know this is discriminating but I didnt go to dean because I dont want more troubles and I love this college as well. just I told her that it is not fair that you made me to do my projects again and again without explanation, and I am a smart student with b and higher grades, from that time she gave me A and B on all of my projects, but at the final grade she gave me C!! I emailed here twice and asked for my grade breakdown with very late responds, she sent me the grade breakdown, and with unfair breakdown, 9 because I have all of my projects grades) she said oh yes you will get B and I will change it, but she said I will change it in a few weeks! so anyone please could guide me, is she going to change it? or she wants to waste the time?
