College is giving me a hard time getting my Bachelor's

Historically, UoP may not have required a high school diploma or GED for either the AA or BA, provided the student was considered to have "ability to benefit". But new government financial aid policies, which are more restrictive with regards to such students, have just taken effect. The OP may have qualified for the AA (and for Federal aid) under the older, more flexible policies. Possibly the OP may not qualify for the BA under the new policies.

Well thanks for the help. I'm looking at other schools. I do not believe it's right no matter what because they accepted my diploma to begin with and even had me fax my diploma to them when I applied for associates. No matter what Associates should override anything else. I will keep looking.

Which is why she needs to contact HSLDA. A suggestion which she totally ignored. Yes, choose a new college. Problem solved. ?

Seriously though, why is your mother not involved in this matter? Why is she allowing this nonsense for even a second? You're saying your mother HOMESCHOOLED you for 13 years and someone just dumped the sum total of that cost (!), effort, and sacrifice in the trash?? .... Why has she not already met with your regional HSLDA office?

....But your solution is to attend a different college? Uhhhhh......I'm getting that little tingly feeling I get when things are just a teeenie bit off.....I'll withhold my true thoughts, but I'm wondering if this wasn't a creative use of the term "homeschooling" after the fact?

As one who has worked on this very issue from inside of a Governor's administration, I completely agree with your asssessment.

Which is odd because the US Military will not ask to see your proof you were homeschooled. They just have your parents sign a letter saying you were, and have it notarized. Its sucks that USDE and Pentagon have two different POI’s on this.

We tell the guy to look for another college in post after post of op's original post, where he types nothing of finding another school. He wants a solution to the problem at hand and all of us tell him to find another a school. When he says he's going to find a new school we turn on him? I doubt insinuating he's lying is a fair thing to do based on the lack of facts in this case. You have to remember that not everyone possesses the knowledge you do about homeschooling, you see a solution and a means to gain it, while op is muddy in a swamp of despair.

    Wow

Wow Jennifer don't really apprieciate what your saying. I never was a member of HSLDA number 1, and number 2 I have already looked into it and contacted yet to hear back. Also who said I was homeschooled 13 years? I was homeschooled from 6th grade on and never said my mom homeschooled me even though she did. Another thing my mom has already been in contact with friends from homeschooling to ask them....they do not know. Also it's not my mom's job. I paid for college and I'm 27 years old so I think I can figure it out on my own. So already contacting HSLDA before I even checked out this forum....I'm still changing schools. I do not like UOP and now that I have been given information from some of you on here, I know there are cheaper better options. That being aside I'm not going to make a big scene about the fact that they will not take my diploma I'm going to find the answer, which is that they are wrong. Thanks again for all the help.

I hope that that does not ruin it for you on the board. I think you can be a great help to others who have questions about the school you attended and the homeschooling process. Stay around!

Heve you checked the big three schools?

    Excelsior http://www.excelsior.edu/ecapps/degreeProgram/degreeTable.jsf
COSC Concentrations (Majors) and CPS Forms at Charter Oak State College
TESC Thomas Edison State College | Undergraduate Degrees

You can transfer in most, if not all, your existing credits
You can take remaing courses from any RA school (low cost tuition available)
You are unlimited on credit via CLEP or DSST exams
If you can't find exact course you can effectively design your own (the focus of my BSLS is engineering)
Degrees from the big three have been used for entry into graduate programs
The big three can the lowest cost option to earn a bachelors degree.

  11. I've long since stuffed the topic of homeschooling into my mental filing cabinet under the heading "do not talk about in polite company", right between abortion and Jesus.

Jennifer is one of the nicest, most helpful people you will ever come across online. She also is one of only two people for whom I have made a GIF animation.

Technically, it is your mom's job (or whoever your homeschool guardian was). But, clearly you have already found a solution, and I wish you the best.

I never suggested the OP look for another school. While many people replied, my replies were consistent - and I still stand by them. I'm also not trying to be rude or scare away the OP. I tried to unmuddy her swamp, but her reaction wasn't what I'd have expected based on my interaction with a zillion other homescholers. I possess no special knowledge.

To those who are stating "An associates trumps a HSD".

    1. If the OP had his AS yet. He doesn't.
    2. If the OP doesn't have a formal HSD, he doesn't meet the prereqs for the AS program he's in either and that could DQ him from earning the AS.

So um, definitely go up the management chain and get this worked out, because you could end up worse off.

Here's a tip: Call the Office of Dispute Management.

    Office of Dispute Management
    University of Phoenix
    4615 E. Elwood Street
    Mail Stop AA-S401
    Phoenix, AZ 85040
    Fax: 480.557.2275

    Call us at 602.557.5566
    M–F from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Arizona Time

When i worked at UOP, even the most reasonable policies could get "adjusted" if a student went through this office. ODM has almost unlimited authority to make things happen. The counselors and staff will almost never tell you about this (we were told not to mention it), but if you go through ODM, you might be surprised what will happen.

The counselors involved will have to document, document, document. Chances are that the ball was dropped at some point. Generally ODM will side with the student.

I've taught for the UoP for nearly 5 years and never knew that this department existed.

Well since my grades are great in these last 2 classes then I know for sure I will have my associate's. Plus there is no way they could not give me the Associate's when I've said earlier that the first thing they asked was where I went to school and I said I was homeschooled in Missouri. They also had me fax over my diploma asap, no problems. I will definately be calling Office of Dispute Management in the morning. I have already started talking to other schools, none have gotten back yet. HSLDA has yet to get back to me. So no help there. I will try the next option dispute. By the way I'm a she not a he lol. Thanks everyone. I will keep you informed on what happens!
