    Hello everyone,
I'm interested in pursuing my education in the direction that could help me secure a good job related with management in a good IT company in future. I have some experience in the online marketing and advertising, on the other hand I also have some programming knowledge too (Both are a bit related too but I'm not sure if any company wants that).

Now what I think is that if I earn a good degree in Management (preferably MBA) then I would have a shot in some big company to get a job as a manager, handling their IT department or advertising department since I would have experience and knowledge of both. That's the first reason why I want to do that, simply because there is something that I like and I know I can pull it off. The second reason is because it can get me a job of $100k+ a year easily, I searched it on various websites.

For MBA (if I should go for it), I think I should try for London Business School because of their awesome ranking (No. 2 in the World) and they also offer distance learning for a bit less. Now I know that they are absolutely legit, but I have a different question:

"Keeping in mind about what my skills are and what I want to achieve, is an MBA degree from London Business School a good option to get a management job in some good IT Company?"

P.S: I have a BSc degree from a reputable University currently and its related with IT.

No disrespect intended to the Royal Holloway MBA program, which is an excellent one, but since the OP referenced a "#2 in the world ranking", he meant LBS.

My bad in writing the name of the University. I have been searching for some good Universities that offer MBA like crazy and things got mixed up a little bit. Actually the distance learning program that I had in mind is being offered by london school of business and finance (LSBF - Study Online) and it also has a very good ranking (No. 87 if I'm not wrong). I don't know why I wrote that distance learning thing about LSB, sorry about that.

But that wasn't the main question. Lets say that if I choose any of those university (I don't have a job or any other responsibility in particular so I can easily go to UK for higher studies, the reason I didn't want to was because of extra expenditures like hostel, food etc) and got lucky enough to get an admission there, would it really help me in getting a management job in some good company? or would it qualify me for something totally different for which I have no experience?

I have 2 years of experience in online advertising. I was good in building a decent reputation for any brand onilne, make their presence stronger on Internet including major social networks. Plus, I also have a technical background too in terms of writing programs. All I want is a way to tell big names in US that I'm a qualified person, please offer me a chance to manage your marketing/IT department.

Thats it, thats all I'm looking for. And as I said before, I want this because I'm really good at what I do and I have seen online that people with good (relevant) qualifications can easily secure a good job in US. So, would MBA from any of those school would be a good choice, or am I headed totally in a wrong direction?

Would really appreciate some help on it.

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but I doubt anyone finds $100k+ jobs "easily" anymore. IMHO, if the US is where you are aiming to go, a well-known program from a US school would be a better way to go. Your location says you are in Texas. Have you considered Texas A&M or Texas Tech?

You're going to struggle to find a six figure job soley because you have an MBA, employers want relevant experience. i work at Harvard Business School and many students here don't get six figure jobs out of school.
I went to a top 30 MBA program and the average salary out of my school and ones similarly ranked hovers at around $90k a year.
Best of luck in your search, but another problem you're going to run into is with an online MBA you're not going to get the networking opportunities of a full-time program and that is where the connections are made that lead to those six figure jobs.

I'm not seeking a path that "easily" gets me $100k job :) I want a proper plan that leads to it and given my background, I though this should be a good idea. BTW, there are plenty of companies who have hired MBAs on $100k+ and soon they might hit us with another job opening with similar offer, who knows. And there are jobs that easily pay $100k+ to MBA. Check out this link for instance: Master of Business Administration - MBA Degree Salaries - PayScale

I'm not saying that it has to be $100k or nothing. Its just a target. Even if I miss it, I might land on maybe something like $85k which is absolutely fine for me. Whats important is that I work on my resume and add some important qualifications on it so if there's a good job opening in the market, I'm considered eligible for it. Thats why I'm seeking this qualification, nothing else.

About the Texas school, no I haven't tried them yet. While scanning for top Universities online, they didn't show up in my radar so I don't know a lot about them, but I will definitely check them out. Besides, distance is not an issue as I said before. I just want to make sure that whatever time or energy I put in my studies, I get the best out of it, so I'd even go to Japan for a while if I had to, to earn a good degree.

What would you recommend then? Should I try for LBS?

$100k is not a hard target, its just a personal goal that I should do something that makes me this atleast. I'd even start with a $40k job if that would lead me to a better job and career in near future, I don't mind. Right now its all about making my resume better and I would really appreciate your sincere advice on this since you are a graduate from a very reputable University.

That is not the ranking of LSBF, but of Grenoble Graduate School of Business (France). They present Grenoble as their "academic partner".

Check the links on the bottom of this page, for example:
    http://www.degreeinfo.com/distance-learning-discussions/33319-london-school-business-finance-grenoble-ecole-de-management-accreditation.html

LSBF by itself is not recognized as an university in the UK.
You should check the status of that degree on the site of Grenoble Graduate School of Business.

Most jobs outside of academia don't care where what degree you have or where you earned it - what they care about is your experience and what you can offer the company. As pointed out earlier connections make a big difference - many jobs are advertised because of company policy but the recipient of that job has already been selected.

MBAs are plentyful so have you thought of obtaining a degree that sets you apart from the field - a degree in math, some science, or engineering fields will pay well.

You definitely should get your MBA and go for the gold ring; you might do well. However, it's not as easy as it was 10 years ago to get an MBA and land an awesome job. There are so many more MBA holders out in the job market these days, the economic conditions coupled with the availability of MBAs through online schools, has increased the number of master's degrees holders exponentially. So, unfortunately, an MBA is not the magic key to a high paying job that it used to be. This does not mean that it's impossible, it's just no longer a slam dunk.

If you can get into LBS, by all means go, but they don't offer a degree via distance, you would have to move to London. If you want to do the degree via distance while you continue working And cost isn't an issue I would recommend looking at the following: Fuqua (Duke), McDonogal (Georgetown), Kelly (Indiana) and maybe the new Brown/IE Business School Executive MBA. Those are just the ones that come to mind. mcComb (UT-Austin)might have an executive program, if you're in Texas you might want to look into that. You're going to need to take the GMAT for any of these programs.

Can I ask what your stats are; work experience, undergraduate degree (school, major and GPA)? This would make it easier to make recommendations.

Incidentally my top choice for a UK MBA would be Durham - not only is Durham a prestigous school but it is in a neat area of the UK with lots of history. Plus I have relatives living nearby.
Global Learning Centre : The Global MBA - Durham University
But how practical the knowledge gained is for US business is uncertain. I do business in both the USA and the UK and see very different business practices in the two countries.

I don't know much about any of the UK schools except LBS, but I know that roughly 10% of their program is mademup of US students. They also have a huge exchange program with 70% of second year students doing their Fall term at US schools including Tuck, Wharton, Booth, Sloan and Kellog. Typically, HBS only loses students to three other schools and LBS is one of them, the other two are Stanford and Wharton. I think if you attend LBS and want to work in the US you would have little trouble getting hired on somewhere.
