Someone with a CS undergrad degree and two + years experience (who wants to go the IA Masters and career route) has the opportunity to attend a 7 Day CISSP bootcamp (fully paid by employer), and get a CISSP Associate Certification. Is there any reason that he should not jump on this opportunity? Is the exam doable?

Absolutely; however, 7 days boot camp is not enough to pass the exam. You should jump into this opportunity in a heart beat. Good Luck!:AR15firing:

    Depends.

If you have some background in the 7 domains (any one or two really) and go to the right boot camp, it's more than enough as that's the route I took. I had some background in physical security, legal and access control, (5 years total) and an undergrad in IT before sitting.

However, since I'm also a hardcore certification and bootcamp guy with over 20 tech certs I can tell you straight out that the CISSP is not a hard exam. I'd rate the GMAT higher in stress level and the MCITP exams tougher in terms of trick questions. At least when I sat the CISSP in 2007 there were no trick questions.

If the bootcamp is taught by Shon Harris or Clement DuPuis you will pass if you're breathing (they were last seen teaching for Intense School, but have their own firm now) otherwise be careful with where you go.

Agree with ITJD on this one. Shon Harris' books (or in-person courses if an option) are top-notch. I'm studying with her All In One Exam Guide (and have been for the last month) to take the CISSP exam in 3 weeks. I'd concur that if you have experience that covers at least some of the domains, and supplement with the boot camp, I think you might be in good shape. You'd have to consider whether you're the "Boot camp" style learner though as well. I tried a boot camp for my MSCE years ago and while many of us passed the exams at the end, a significant number in the course did not because of the level of stress and intensity of the boot camp curriculum. I personally wouldn't do one again because I don't think it was quite the best style for me to actually retain information for practical application after getting the credential. Good luck!

Outstanding input. I quickly found the Shon Harris site and am now reviewing that option. Thank you

Go buy the Shon Harris book first. Read it cover to cover over the course of a week. Then do the bootcamp. You will pass.
I used the Shon Harris book only and passed. I do have 15 years of software development and access and identity management experience but the physical security and some of the regulations were not known to me before studying.
