Make that 24, not 30, credits.

Thanks for the correction, MC. They only took 55 of my (many) credits, so I wasn't sure.

First, sorry for my post appearing twice - there was some problems with the moderator approval so it took some time.. And I am not the most patient of all:)

Maniac Craniac - I absolutely love the flower - thanks. And thanks for clarifying the difference between a major and a concentration, I had been wondering about that!

So i guess I need to go for a major which means Charter Oak is out. TESC is really expensive for international students and also SUNY, Empire State is out for being a concentration too. I was quite excited about University of Wyoming but it seems their program is not fully online anyways, I misunderstood. AMU sounds good but with 250 a credit also not on the cheapest side..

I am a little confused about the Excelsior system.. If I take the tests does it say on my diploma (transcript) that it is taken by test and not as a course? And can the tests be taken worldwide (without travelling to US I mean)? Not that I wouldn't love to do that though, I went on a roadtrip a few years back and compared to Denmark US is really BIG! but beautiful:)

Well, to threedogs. I really like the look and description of Columbia College. It's a little more expensive than some of the others (but still in the cheap end) so I am definitely going to look into their program. And if I 'only' need to take 24 credits (thanks to Maniac Craniac) it's a good price. Are you also majoring in psychology? You mentioned that you 'only' could transfer 55 of your credits - can I ask what the reason was for that? I was really hoping for max transfer but maybe it's harder than I think:)

And to Ian and other people who might know Bakers. Like with Columbia, I really like the description and look of the psychology at Baker. I have requested information from them so I will ask them and see what happens. I am a little confused about the difference between 'quarter credit hours'. What does that mean - how do I calculate to 'real' credit hours? Also, does anyone know what is the maximum transfer for Bakers?

So, it seems I am know considering Bakers, Columbia College, Excelsior and maybe Peru State College.. Any inputs?

Sorry about all the questions and follow-up questions but I really appreciate your help - it's a true jungle:)

    Best, Aja

    Hi jra

Thanks for your advice. I have just sent an email to excelsior about the final title (It needs to be BSc or BA in psychology ) and the price/credit as it seems a little confusing.. But I think they might be a good option:) I am currently having my transcripts evaluated by ECE. Do you think it's a benefit to have it evaluated by WESC also?

And maybe a stupid question but what is POAG?

    Aja

AJA, you can get both a BA or a BS in Psychology . In your specific situation given that you have probably a lot of Business credit, a BS would be the way to go because it allows you to allocate more credit that is not in the arts and sciences (which is the case with business)

Yes, I recommend you do both evaluations. From my personal experience with international students, the results could be shocking. They pretty much have the monopoly of credential evaluation and they literally do whatever they please, in most cases the evaluators don't have first hand knowledge of the education system and well, that leads to shockin and amazingly different results, unfortunately in the majority of cases being unfavorable to the student and there is no appeal, no refund and you will probably find very difficult to talk to someone at those companies. I strongly recommend doing both

The price x credit at Excelsior if you join POAG would be $275 x credit. However you can choose to transfer 117 credits out of 120 to get your bachelors degree there.
POAG is the peace officers association of Georgia, where you can join as an associate member with the sole purpose of obtaining a discount at Excelsior. If you join POAG your enrollment fee would be $130 and no graduation fee is you take 12 credits with Excelsior

They will accept 30 credits from a DETC Degree-granintg institution, however you will probably have to pay $80 for them to evaluate those classes, unless they have evaluated them first.

    Thanks jra!

It seems Excelsior might be my 'easiest' choice.. But I do like it if I can just take all my courses one place and not have to go through the whole finding courses and transferring them several times. I am thinking about applying to both Columbia College and Bakers Online and then see who allows me to transfer the most credits (Columbia is Bachelor of Arts and Bakers science) If both will only accept limited credits, I will go for Excelsior.

Is it 'bad style' to apply for several Universities at the same time to see how the credits transfer?

Also, I just stumbled upon 'Northwestern State - University of Louisiana' and they seem to have an online BA in psychology too. Any experiences with this school?

Finally, I googled Baker and they seem to have quite mixed reviews.. Any experiences with them?

Thanks, thanks, thanks. Hope you all had a good weekend:)

Of course not! It is the schools that try to lock us in by waiting until we apply to let us know how many credits they'll accept. I applied to Columbia College and Eastern New Mexico University at the same time. ENMU took too long to evaluate my credits - well, they both did, IMO, but Columbia was starting classes so I decided to jump right in. Turns out ENMU is accepting around twenty more credits, and they are less expensive, so I'm planning to go there in January (I don't have any strong preference for a major - or at least, I keep changing my mind).

You do what you have to do - and good luck!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that UWyo isn't going to accept my AP, so I will be starting 12 credits in the hole. However, they are so much less expensive than other schools, that a few extra CLEP is a measly expense to have to catch up to where I *should* be.

In fact, if I went to SUNY-ESC, they would likely give me 16 more credits... but the expense still wouldn't pay off. Stinks, too, since I considered SUNY off and on for quite a long time.

Colleges and universities use either quarter-hours or semester hours for their courses and degree.

A quarter-unit system indicates that the student undergoes 10 hours of instruction per unit whereas the semester-unit requires the student undergoes 15 hours per unit. (Schools on the quarter system usually have 3 major terms per year and require 180 units for a BS vs. two major terms per year for the semester system and require 120 units for a BS).

    1 Quarter unit = 2/3 semester unit.

Goodmorning all (well, evening in Denmark but still)

I didn't even consider applying for more universities at once but such a good idea! I have today applied to Columbia College, Peru State College and Northwestern State University of Louisiana. I can't be sure those are the best choices but I have to end this search some time:) I will send them all my documents and see who gives me the most credit.. And maybe supplement with some community college courses online if they insist that I have some general courses.

Thanks for all your help. I will keep you posted on the result! Oh yes, I am still considering Baker but I am waiting to hear whether the 205/credit tuition is for full or quarter credit.. If it's for quarter credits they are really not that cheap..

Bad style? hehe not at all. I have studied at 8 different institutions. Right now I study at 4 at the same time, so no worries Aja. I wouldnt worry about finding classes online, the process is very simple there might be a couple Psychology classes Excelsior requires that might a bit tricky to find but not a big deal, you can get almost instant help from the guys here.

To make it even more confusing: at least one school (Louisiana Tech University) schedules classes by quarter, but lists credits in semester-hours.

They really aren't making it easy for us! Just for info if anyone was in doubt like me about Baker quarter credits. I have written a few e-mails with them (they seem friendly and reply fast) but the 205 per credit tuition is for quarter credit courses so the 'real' comparable price makes them not so cheap anymore..

Also, I decided to apply to Excelsior too so I can compare their credit transfer to the others. So, 4 applications and diplomas and TOEFL tests are under evaluation. Now I just have to wait and see:)
