    It's funny that you say that. During the height of the GW regime, the term "elitist intellectual" was thrown around a lot in this forum. It wa meant as an insult. Since when is being an intellectual a bad thing? I had this term thrown at me VERY frequently. So I would just say thank you for thinking of me as an intellectual. I will take that compliment anytime.

    I sometimes watch The Ed Show, The Rachel Maddow Show, and of course Keith Olbermann. When I watch them I know exactly what has been broadcast on Fox News since that's all they talk about. They seem to exist to critique Fox. When I watch Fox these three very rarely get any mention.

    So after babbling on my point is that these three (Ed, Rachel, Keith) do not seem to offer the liberal and progressive perspective but act venomous reviewers of Fox.

    @Abner:
    I believe the term was intended to imply that an arrogant group of well educated people believed that partially because of their education and status they were qualified to make other people's choices. It was their perception of themselves as "elite" that was the percieved problem, education and intellectualism were not the intended insult.
    And you are nothing like that, so shame on the people who said those things :)

    Assuming I'm correct in my assessment fighting that attitude is something I could get behind, at least in principle, but I would hate to align myself with the type of people who were saying it (they are no better).

    Actually, it is my opinion that America is headed towards ruin, not a lack of solvency as a country, but a lack of freedom. In fact it is my opinion that we are already there on some level. The nail in our coffin is going to be the sneaky tactics of the current administration that are reminiscent of the horrible patriot act of the last administration. Now we are making it easier to tap into internet connections, email, and phone calls. The rules on internet intercepts are very lax but intercepts are hard to accomplish. Our last defense against government monitoring on the Internet is the difficulty that forces moderation. We are totally screwed.

    I thought that for all his faults Obama would not be a statist in this way, I knew he was a big economic control guy, but I thought he would trumpet the liberal ideal of personal rights in behavior and privacy, but I was wrong. They are truly all the same.

    As if we need to find a way to increase our incarceration rate which is already three times the developed world. It's shameful.
