I gave up looking, for most programs have that disclaimer. I already contacted your program P/g.

Oh Julie? if you want I can give you her phone number and all that if you don't have it. She's super nice. They have a New Testament course starting in November and then the THEO/Theology core classes start in January.

I'm not RC, but that doesn't bother me about this school.

More expensive? Their tuition per credit hour is less than Southwestern's, from what I read -- $300 for HA versus $360 for Southwestern.

Could you tell me how you arrived at those two, and why you eliminated others you were considering?

Also, you are going to choose between writing, and theological studies. Can you tell me the reasons you might choose one discipline over the other?

Why all my questions? Because I'm just about at the same place you are, amazingly enough.

If you don't mind my asking, are you Baptist?

ha you're right. I was looking at it as $600 for some reason :) I really liked HA's program too... It was a toss up. I tested the waters both places and really liked how friendly and informal SWC was... The people I spoke to at HA were a little "stuffy" (for lack of a better word) and I wasn't too happy that they don't require a thesis. However I LOVE that HA offers concentrations:

Areas of Concentration for both commuter and distance learning students: Church History, Dogmatic Theology, Moral Theology and Sacred Scripture

SWC doesn't allow for a concentration. If I did HA, I would go for the Church History or Sacred Scripture concentration. No language requirement at either school, though, but it's needed for a doctorate in apologetics or theology. HA recently added a Bioethics concentration, with or without HCBC certification.

I have since moved away from the denominational aspect of names and considered myself as nondenominational. This was even on my military dog tags: "Nondenominational", or "No religious preference".

That's probably a more apt description, or "Christian, generic" or "Christian with Far Eastern leanings" lol

Just for possible future consideration, Liberty's partially-online PhD in Theology & Apologetics doesn't require languages :)

I found out today that in Southwestern's MA in Theological Studies you pay tuition for the 12 regular course, plus the two thesis "courses" also, meaning you're paying tuition for 14 courses, making the cost for the degree more than $15000 in tuition. For me that means Holy Apostles is higher on my list now, and I might have to eliminate Southwestern. Too bad, as I like the program.

It ends up about $15,200 as opposed to HA's MA which is about $11,900 (I rounded up and included the grad fee). Also, HA offers the concentrations that SWC does not, if that matters. However the thesis is in addition to the 36 credits at HA, so you are still looking at 39 cr at HA.

    From their site:
Students who aspire to pursue advanced degrees beyond the M.A. may write an M.A. thesis or take a foreign language proficiency exam if they wish. However, neither the thesis nor the language exam may be substituted for any of the required 36 credit hours. Students who do opt to write a thesis must first take the analytical writing portion of the Graduate Record Exam (G.R.E.).

    Also:
    4. There are additional fees in this program. In addition to tuition and video or audio tape fees, and the cost of books, the student must pay a $50 one time admission fee, a graduation fee (currently $125), and, if the student writes a thesis, a fee equivalent to a three credit course.

I would opt not to do the thesis. At least they give you a choice.

Still, it's pretty close between the two, for me.

Actually, if I wasn't trying to use the degree to renew my teaching certificate, and to prepare for college teaching here in the US, I would do UNISA's MTh in Christian Spirituality. I may still do my doctorate there, if I make it that far.

I know this is a few months out of date. However, did you look at:
Johnson Bible College: New Testament <--- Cheaper
    and
Lincoln Christian Seminary: Online Learning <---- Not so cheaper
