"American versus British Ph.D. Programs: Three Doctoral Students Reflect on Their Decisions"

I saw this on the SBL (Society of Biblical Literature) site. Thought it was interesting.

I wish that these b******* would realise that a doctorate degree from a perfectly accredited and legitimate programme should be respected irregardless of where the degree was issued from given the argument of whether it is from the United Kingdom or the United States.

Bloody fools for wasting so much time on such rubbish. I would prefer a doctorate from the United Kingdom, but that is my personal choice. Does that mean that a person who decides to get a doctorate from the United States is somehow less than me? No. It comes down to personal choice and what works best for the pupil.

It is no different spending time deciding whether "colour" or "color" is spelled better? Both are spelled correctly simply different styles and traditions.

If someone tells you that your doctorate is better because you got yours from the United Kingdom or the United States I would reply, "Piss off mate". We have more in common than differences. Last thing we need to do is to further argue over petty stuff.

Equally important is that a doctorate from Australia or Canada should be equally as impressive. When are we going to start respecting our differences and traditions instead of trying to make one more superior over the other? Just my two cents.

UK is better, the US is so dollar driven vs learning (my 2 cents)

I looked at 3 program: my picks listed below:

1 AUS DBA $20K (Charles Darwin) Business DBA
2 USA EdD $120K (Penn) (Exec Ed. Work based Leadership)
3 UK DSS $12K (CLMS) Labor Market Studies
