I've worked for two Police Departments in the SF Bay area and I was given that advise from both my former Police Chief's and one Police Captain. (All upper level management who determine who moves up the department ladder)

I just called and asked a chief of a 200 man department, he told they would hire CJ over BBA any day of the week. Let's get real here, if you work in CJ you want a degree in CJ.

I have a BBA and a MCJ -- and I strongly concur with the above post! A degree in CJ shows desire and tenacity. Also, a degree in CJ can be used in non-police fields, such as retail management, general management, military commissionings and entry-level supervisory positions. A bachelors degree in CJ is just as useful as a degree in history, English, biology, math and anything else, contingent on your goals i.e. if you want to get a masters in math, then you may want to get a bachelors degree in math too.

Well it appears that the standards in Texas are different then those in California where the standards seem to be much higher.

    Lets get real here.

Lets get real here, it depends on where you apply and who looks over the application. I win.

Haha....You don't even have to go to a academy to get a license in Cali...In Texas you do.

What you’re saying is if you want to go to work in IT you need a BBA in case you don't like what you’re doing.
Many many departments require a BA. I can't think of a single LEO job that they would not take a CJ degree over a BBA.

I'm done with this argument it's not fair to the OP who wants to get into LE and wants a CJ degree. The best thing the op (which is from Texas btw) could do is call around and see.

Oh BTW op, if you can get on with a department first, a new bill passed last year and current active peace officers get free tuition at any CC of state college (even online)
