  1. Anyone catch this?

Funny, but not at all good for the perception of online degrees.

I earned a degree online but it's through a state university. My graduate degree is from a top 100 school.

This is the exact reason why I didn't choose a school like Kaplan, U of P or some other crappy online only school.

I wondered if anyone the cast members had a college degree. I think it’s funny that the ones that are in the skit that went to a college, went to one that offers an online degree.

Kenan Thompson-Never Went to any college
Andy Samburg- Went for two years NYU - never finished- NYU offers online degrees
Abby Elliott- Dropped out during her first semester of college at Marymount Manhattan college which offers an online degree in history

Kristen Wigg- Dropped out of college at University of Arizona- Arizon offers online degrees
Jason Sudeikis- Never went to college
Nasim Pedrad- Degree from UCLA Art UCLA offers online degreesWill Forte- Degree UCLA History see above
Bill Hader-Dropped out of the Art Instuite-Which offers online degrees

    Great response.
However I can't find where UCLA offers any on-line degrees.

I laughed, but I'm at the same time discouraged. Publicity like this does not bode well and may be more powerful than one might imagine.

The problem is that it is based somewhat in truth. Of course online schools really don't teach you how to lie about your degree, but they are addressing (admittedly exaggerating) the DL stigma that we often deal with in certain industries. Yes, the skit was very funny, good SNL, but stuff like this may be more destructive than we imagine.

Yes - classes/courses and certificates but no degrees as far as I know.

To my knowledge the the closest any UC school has to an online degree is the UCR MFA (requires several on campus residencies).

  12. I think online degrees can take heart in the success of online dating. Online dating used to have a high degree of stigma but now a huge percentage of the population finds their mate through social networking/dating sites. The stigma is virtually gone in the under 40 crowd. I see the same thing happening with online degrees.

    Interesting comparison. Thanks.

Given that half of all marriages end in divorce, one could praise online dating sites for expediting the process and allowing people more time to find their next ex.

Wow, my pessimistic side can be pretty harsh, eh? :D

LOL! It might logically follow that somebody should now invent online divorce! Maybe it could be another service of the online dating sites. Or we could make our own. I'm going to start my own and call it eDisharmony.com or maybe DumpaJerk.com or DitchaWitch.com

I'll ditch DitchaWitch!!! Then he can move on to BagAHag.com, a meet-and-greet for bitter divorcees.
