Do Penn Foster courses have to be ACE reviewed to be accepted by Excelsior?

I'm getting conflicting data from the forums and it seems there may have been a policy change at some point so I'm trying to get up to date information on this. One person said up to 30 NA credits w/out ACE review? Is that true? I just was thinking that Penn Foster could be the way to go, I really prefer the idea of truly self paced to dealing with a more (relatively) traditional school like Clovis. I also thought information literacy was pretty straight-forward and would like to keep with a program I know I like.

    Thanks guys!

No, they took a few that were not ace reviewed from Penn Foster from me. I think they will take any credits from any DETC school.

If you are enrolled in a business program and you wish to transfer business courses after you have enrolled, it may be more difficult to transfer non ACE approved business courses. Excelsior will accept ACE approved business courses for transfer regardless of enrollment status. If I could find the pdf source to reference their transfer policy, I'll post it.

Ok. The policy appears to apply if a student completed NA Non ACE courses after enrollment. This may apply to other programs as well. Page 28-29 describes transfer credit policy for programs not regionally accredited. https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/Publications/Student_Policy_Handbook.pdf

    Meh. More fees. Annoying.

Well thanks so much for the information you guys! Good info, and fast!

I'm going to see if Penn Foster has any courses that will work as humanities that are ACE reviewed. And I really would prefer no proctor. That would be an expense, delay, and nuisance I could live without.

Take the Anl & Interp Lit Clep they will take that. 6 credits in humanities and no study time. I took it cold and a got good score. Any moron should be able to pass it. If you have every read any book and have been able to tell what it was about, you should have no prob.

Well, according to EC it will duplicate my AP lit test. If it didn't this would be perfect for me. That is a really good idea though, thanks :).

    That sucks :(

Is there a limit on DETC credit at EC?

Is there a cheaper DETC school than Penn Foster for individual credits?

I saw you had mentioned ACE approved humanities courses. I took Intro to Literature and Art Appreciation and transferred to TESC. If you go through the ACE website and search for PF courses you will see that they have a ton of ACE approved ones. Then I just found some that looked like they were related to humanities and decided on those two. They were dirt cheap with books included. There will be proctors though, I think most of their courses are structured that way. But the proctor only has to be someone with an associates degree that isn't related to you.

Oh, I have one friend with an associates degree. I'll make him do it for free :)

The course is very user friendly and I want to say was $60/credit hour (military but they have increased now) but have increased to $80 or $90 a credit hour with books included. The credits didn't duplicate A&I Lit or any of the other courses I took. There are a number of open book online tests that can be completed as quickly as you want and then an open book paper final. There was a fair amount of writing involved on final. The online tests were multiple choice.

I took them because I didn't want to waste my time studying for the humanities CLEP.

Where are the fees for individual credits listed?
    Thanks.

Excelsior would take unlimited DETC credits as long as they are ACE approved. The difference between plain ACE and DETC-ACE is that DETC-ACE classes will receive letter grades and are not subject to the 30 credit cap

Writing papers is my specialty (or it was four years ago, I guess I haven't written a paper in four years...yikes! Meh, I bet I still got it.).

You guys are amazing. So much information! It'll be a little rough, but I'm excited by the idea of writing papers. I miss writing papers.

INSTE which is DETC is only $79 a class (3 hours). Its not fast, but its cheap. After you get done with level only takes 5 weeks a class. Tey let you finish faster. I do not know much about them other then they will be rolling out online classes real soon.

    Level One
Level One consists of four 16-week courses. Each course costs just $79 - about 70¢ a day! That includes the textbook, enrollment, tuition and shipping fees.

Wow! I have to make up my mind about self-paced vs cost-effective priorities. I really don't know if I want to do a 16 week course. I will look into this further :) Thanks!

I enrolled in Excelsior to get my associates degree since I had a lot of old credits from the late 70's. I took the Info Lit class at Penn Foster. Then needed 1 more science so I took Physical Science at PF. What was I thinking? It was hard for someone who hadn't done any science in almost 30 years. I lugged through it and made a 72, which according to PF was a D ("Passing" in their 70-74 range). But ACE refused to take it as passing. I was quite disappointed, of course. I then took Human Anatomy from Clovis CC. It was a lot of reading and work, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I made an A in it and got my Associates degree. I would say just make sure you know what the grading for D is at PF and make sure you get above that mark to get a grade through ACE that will pass on to Excelsior.
