How do I contact Indira Gandhi National Open University? I've tried three of the email addresses on their website but I still haven't received an answer.

Indian universities have a website just for giggles I think.

I've had the same problem with American colleges too. Their websites are prettier though.

Maybe get your Indian friends to help in calling them? The university is legit just that they can sure improve on their web site.

    Caveat emptor!

    Hi

I've heard the same complaint about contacting IGNOU from many sources. Haven't heard of any real solution, either. One thing first - are you sure you really want to? The reasons I ask are:

    (1) It's a perfectly good school BUT - those "bargain" prices you see on the site don't exist for non-Indians, or at least they don't for people outside the SAARC countries. Foreigners pay UP TO 40 TIMES the "home-boys" price! So the 1000-rupee ($28) course quickly becomes $750 US!

    (2) IGNOU Exams can be a REAL problem. Very few exam sites outside India and those few mostly in Africa. Rumor has it that you MIGHT be able to write 'em at an Indian Embassy, but no confirmation.

You want quality, inexpensive overseas distance education? South Africa is a better idea. It will probably cost appreciably less than the foreigners' prices at IGNOU. Don't overlook the UK either. Last I heard, a distance Bachelor's from some U. of London colleges could be had for much hard work and around $4,000+. No plane-trips needed, either. :)

Thank you, Johann. I'll keep that in mind.

No, I live in Pakistan. Partition happened over 60 years ago.

I'm not surprised considering the current political and cultural tensions between Pakistan and India.

    You may be in luck....

    Hi, President

Pakistan is a SAARC country, so you may well qualify for IGNOU's posted rates. Sorry I can't help with contacting them, though.

If the IGNOU contact problems I hear of are also "enjoyed" by those distance students who have somehow "fought their way onto the books," then studying there must be a very frustrating academic experience indeed!

Perhaps each distance grad of IGNOU should get a MEDAL along with his/her diploma. They've all doubtless been made to fight hard enough to deserve one! :)

I can't remember if you’re still around or not (Banned)? If you are how did it go with getting in touch with them.
