List of religious degree mills?

Well I'm not sure if your talking about serious "degree mills" that take lots of money for an unaccredited degree or one for some other reason it matters.

Patriot Bible University would be in the first camp and my degree program (and well the Universal Life Church - Modesto as another example) falls on the other end.

I offer degrees just to screw with the "system" of religious denominations and the institutions they support and I figure if God Calls you to scholarly ministry then that is enough for the ministry to offer a degree. But I don't pretend its more than it is. And the degrees offered in my case are 100% FREE and even offer a diploma by e-mail I place myself over my church attached to the ULC (Modesto) that charges for degrees.

It's sad that you can't have something great, like this board, without others coming in to mess it up. It's unfortunate that there are so many individuals who could care less about others, but that's the way the world is, I suppose.

I have to say, as I have said before, Nation's U is what you are looking for. Cheap, online, and they should have detc in January. What more can you ask for? If I had the cash I would go with LU. They are RA and have a great standing in the south. But if you're poor and want a good almost free education, Nations is the best. I can tell you I learned a bunch with them. So much in fact I have not had to crack the ol bible open once in my women in religion class at Clovis, I have a 100 in class btw.

That sentence doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Other end of what? It's all degree mills.

If your "call" came from your God and not just from your own egoistic desire, then wouldn't you try to do your very best and make your every action worthy of your deity?

A call to "scholarly ministry" kind of demands that you become a scholar before you can presume to teach other people. This is something that needs to be taken very seriously.

You seem to be suggesting that because your subject is religion, it's somehow acceptable and justifiable to distribute false and meaningless diplomas that suggest scholarship that doesn't exist, scholarship that you yourself don't possess and openly dismiss.

That only demeans and mocks the God that you believe has called you. If you did receive a call, something that I most strongly doubt, then you were called to start on the path of real learning, not just to mock and ridicule it.

So what is it in your eyes? Nothing?

I'm surprised that the moderators let you advertise your mill here.

This is a useful real-life example of what I was talking about in my last post, though. Millists aren't always in it for the money. It's often an ego-game to them. And the subject of religion seems to attract them like flies.

Kizmet, I see your point and I can understand why everyone would be quick to jump on posts that appear to have an agenda. I think you misunderstand my intentions though. This OP states that he is a disabled father who doesn't have much money for a degree, does not care for an official title and is seeking information. We don't know if this is the truth, but let's assume that it it the truth. I don't like the fact that this new member is subject to abusive questions such as "Who do you think you are". It rubs me the wrong way that the worst is immediately assumed and he is attacked. Is this really how you want new members treated? Shouldn't we give them the benefit of the doubt? That's why I'm suggesting that someone "chill". Hold up, give the guy a break. If he turns out to be a millist, let him have it with both barrels!

I certainly expect that people will be treated fairly on this board and I appreciate your attempts to defend a new member. However, I also know that asking for a list of degree mills is going to trigger some reactions around here because we are so clearly and consistently against anything millish. As I said in my first post in this thread, I think that a terminology problem created this situation. The OP is looking for an inexpensive program, not a degree mill. I figured that was the case and that's why I sent him to SATS. It's probably the least expensive program he'll find anywhere. Still, specific words have specific meanings and if you use a particular word or phrase, even if it's inadvertent, you're going to get a reaction.

Agreed, hence my suggestion that the person doing the reacting "chill" because he was attacking a newbie who didn't know what he was doing. If my words were inflammatory then I regret using that wording. But let's try to be more considerate of newbies. I'm a newbie but I've lurked a long time here.

Sorry my OP as a newbie started so much trouble. I am disabled I just spent a few days away from home due to seizures! Yes people lie! I too hate degree mills that is why a legit Degree program like Nations and some of the free unaccredited ones (that actually make you study the bible in depth) just would seem to make financial sense and help me have formal learning plan. My kids do sometimes lie and are lovingly disciplined/grounded etc. for it, but I still think that their questions are valid. I however just want the most affordable real education in my personal area of interest Biblical/Christian studies and this is a forum that I specifically sought out for its honesty and collective knowledge.

No problem. I'm sorry for your troubles. I hope this information has helped you. Next time it would probably be better to ask the mirror image of that question. Something like: "Looking for a list of good Christian programs that are not degree mills".

BillDayson >>> Yes I do not have any respect for the degrees you saying are legitimate regarding theological ones. I can understand advanced religious studies degrees of a secular nature where its really a study OF religion as part of LEGITIMATE disciplines that are sciences. But religious degrees from the perspective of being religious such as minister preparation its just getting a beggar ready to mooch off the faithful and spewing forth nonsense from the perspective of an equally nonsense denomination in most cases. And often lauding it over the common worshipper who is often to brainwashed to know better. Just look at the Roman Catholcis and their layers of bullpaddies.

So I'm just issuing degrees to those called to get one its at least honest and free, if one wants one. As for their scholarship I'm doing that right now pointing out my theological perspective.

But if you go to Nations at least its dirt cheap and seems to be what your looking for, I think its still a waste of time and you can teach yourself just read the Bible. But that is a good option but I think it should be free for everyone why single out non-incarcerated Americans?
