I see where there are three or four threads on this general topic, but they focused on a few schools in particular, and some of the threads are older. I wondered if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations re MA theology via online/distance learning.
I see the enormous price range and am inclined toward the more inexpensive end, e.g. trinitysem.edu I am not too concerned with whether the seminary is accredited, as it is for personal study and growth and not with a view to teaching or research. Thanks in advance.

If it's just for personal enrichment, what you could do is look at the syllabuses for the required courses in a MA degree and just read the required books ... free except for the cost of the books ... or you can visit your local seminary library and read 'em for free :D

Re inexpensive online degrees, Trinity Sem (unaccredited; possibly DETC accredited in the future) charges $196/credit. Two accredited options spring to mind that are only slightly more expensive but are more credible and useful (in terms of being able to actually use the degree as a credential, I can't say re the education quality since I have never attended any of these personally):

Luther Rice Seminary (TRACS accredited) charges $218/credit and has a couple of different options/specializations available:
Online Seminary / Degree Programs / Theology / Graduate / Atlanta

Liberty Seminary (regionally accredited) charges $250/credit and also offers several different MA options:

LST is a very good school. Their fees are here. Also note that their degrees are issued by Middlesex University.

Check out the South African schools like Stellenbosch University, South African Theological Seminary, University of South Africa, University of Pretoria, etc. Strong South African educational system + weak Rand exchange rate = good news for North American & European students. Although you’ve specified that you’re not looking to teach, I’ll note for the benefit of other readers who might be the unfair reality that ZA degrees won’t be as competitive for faculty hiring.

Incidentally, the issue at Trinity (Newburgh) hasn’t been their lack of accreditation, but their history of claiming accreditation when they didn't have it. Use the search engine.

Thanks to all. This is why I came on here with my question. I have searched the Internet a lot, and have never seen Golden Gate or Bethany, and those two schools' tuition are as good as anything I have yet seen, so thank you for the references, all of you. I appreciate it.......

Thank you to all. I had not heard of Bethany Divinity before, thanks for that also. And I had forgotten about Golden Gate. Thanks for all the help from all the responses

Old Thread, but I'm curious, did you ever make a choice?

    Bible schools..

This is a much discussed topic -- please see older threads.

I still believe SATS is a top pick, even if you [now] don't think you need an accredited degree. The old argument, one much discussed on this forum - is why spend all the money and effort for an unaccredited degree?

SATS will challenge and give you solid instruction, at a very affordable / competitive price.

The one thing that I have learned is that theology isn't generic... what "flavor" of church (theology) are you interested in?

For example, if you're Baptist, a Catholic degree program is probably not what you're looking for (and vise versa)...

This thread is great - I wasn't familiar with SATS.

Welcome to the forum, caymansbanker! You may consider using the search feature of DegreeInfo.com to find mountains of threads and posts about this topic. You could certainly look up SATS, but consider using other terms, such as: MDiv MTh, seminary, divinity, theology, church, etc.

    Best of luck to you!

SATS holds the same accreditation as all the major South African universities.

One option is Grace school of theology (Tracs accreditation achieved 2012). I am considering takiing classes there begining in may. They have an impressive faculty and cost 150$ per hour. I believe their website is gsot.edu. If that doesn't get you there try the tracs website. Go to member schools and scroll down to Grace school of theology. :)
