Continued from my post under Introductions also called "New To This."

I got my transcripts from the community college I attended right out of high school. Should I post all grades or just the Cs and better? I might be too embarrassed to post the bad ones.

Apparently I owe money to PSU so they won't give me my transcripts and I don't have the money to pay them right now. That's a real bummer because that's where I took all of my Psychology classes.

I forgot but I also took a few "cheap" classes through Mount Aloysius College. I'm waiting for those transcripts but I know I took Speech 101 where I got a B, and Philosophy where I got an A, so I'll include those in my list of grades.

Cs and better is fine. Let's see what you have to work with.

Excelsior College does not accept courses with a "D" pass. However both "D" and possibly "F" courses could be included in a portfolio to obtain credt by prior learning.
[e.g. say you received a D or a F in Drug Abuse several years ago - you could then use that course and combine it with other experience - kids, relatives, local issues, press reports, volunteer work, etc.]

You mention life experiences so this might be worth mentioning, although, I can't think of any classes I took that would be relevant to the following:

I'm volunteering 25 hours per week right now for a political campaign. He's probably going to win so I'll be there until his win in November. I started in March. It's a lot of research, data entry, and phone calls.

Also, I took on a MAJOR personal project 4 years ago that required me to learn the entire Canadian Family Law system. It took me a year to learn it. I also represented myself in the courtroom 5 times. I won.

As far as my work-related experience goes, there's a plethora of things I could add to "life experience." For example - I developed the entire accounts receivable system for a large museum.

These two articles give you an idea on how to request/obtain portfolio credit
Degree Info - Prove What You Know: Portfolio Credit
Degree Info - The Unofficial Thomas Edison State College Portfolio Guide
Some members think a portfolio is a lot of work and others not - I think it depends on how much you can document what you learned from your experiences.

But don't forget that if you have existing knowledge CLEP or DSST exams might be the lower cost approach to obtaining academic credit.

Thanks! I'll check it out. I posted my grades but I guess a moderator has to approve before it's posted.

    English Comp I -C-
    English Comp II -B-
    Beginning Algebra -A-
    Intermediate Algebra -B-

I have a few more to add but I'm waiting for those transcripts. Took some "cheap" classes at MAC once upon a time.

I'm going to look into how much $ I owe at Penn State. There's too many credits to pass up; English Comp II, Psych 101, Child Psych, Industrial & Organizational Psych, College Alg. etc.

I don't understand why my grades won't post. I've posted them twice over 5 days ago.

Since you are new here, your posts are highly scrutinized by an automatic system. Your post is in queue and will appear once a moderator has a chance to look at it.

Happens to all of us, until we reach a certain post count. It's a minor inconvenience in comparison to the saturation of spam that this place would get otherwise.

I would think that 5 days would be more than enough time for it to be scrutinized. It's possible that Chip disallowed your posting possibly because of the nature of that personal information. Don't you think so Maniac?

No, you're good :p. I actually had my account deleted as a part of one of these glitches. In the archives, there are now two Maniac Craniacs, my old account (which is inactive) and this one.

I feel like you should listen to your own user name. This is an awfully odd thing to say as someone's first post.

Sorry folks... trying to get this problem under control. I'm thinking that we may have set posts by new posters to a more aggressive review than intended. Working on the problem...

Just wanted to say...don't feel too embarrassed about some of the bad grades. I actually had a .666 GPA my second semester of my freshman year in college when I was 18/19 years old. First of all, that is not even a 1.0 !!! Secondly, my mother was so mad at me. She even said something about the devil b/c it was actually a .666 GPA!! Oh my ...memories! Way too much fun was had by me that year! Boy did I ever pay for it. Took a semester off and grew up. Then I went back. I made straight A's for the longest time and it still took forever for me to drag my GPA out of the gutter b/c of that first year. It haunted me! However I went on to get a double major BA and an M.Ed. I just had to get out of the frat house first!!! lol...so don't feel bad about some bad grades. I venture to say a lot of us have them on our records!

I am one of those straight-A type students who considers jumping in front of a train the second he gets an 89. My senior year in High School, I was a wreck (long, hard life story)... yadda yadda yadda, I have 12 college credits (from a dual HS/college credit program) from that year, 2 Bs and a C, and it gets me upset that so many years later, I still have to live with those grades :(. In fact, if I don't get A's on my next 2 ECE exams, my associate's GPA will be less than 3.0 because of it. ARRRRGGGGG!!!!!! (oh yeah, and it seems that NOBODY EVER gets an A on the cultural diversity exam... so I would have to pull of the impossible just to get a GPA that I still wouldn't be happy with anyway.).

Anyway, if the college you transfer to doesn't accept Fs and Ds, then they shouldn't even factor into your GPA, right (guessing)? Like cutting the bruise out of an apple.

I've always wanted to finish my degree. I'll start then stop, start then stop. Didn't realize it's become much more accessible with computers.

I never had a .666 but close to it. I took English Comp I 3 times! Not that I couldn't do it; I didn't try.

Sounds like this is a good place to be; encouragement AND non-judgemental. Nice!
