In my country, no organizations can issue certificate if they don't register and are allowed to operate as schools (Note: Language centers can not confer certificates also).
Of course companies can NOT either even though they already clearly state that the degrees are useless. If somebody prints fake degrees (if they look similar to ones from real institutes) for fun, for somebody esle to decorate home, he will be in jail also.
Can an American or an American company IN USA be allowed to print (and issue) such degrees?

Such posts/threads serve to boost the search profile of diploma mills. And yes, as a result of searches on terms like "diploma mill." They don't mind the association, of course, since their customers are seeking exactly what they are and sell.

Attempting to dissuade the OP is based on the notion he doesn't know what he's doing. He does, both in terms of buying the product and increasing the mill's search profile.

    "Victim or Villain" indeed.

Why? What subject do you want to study? Why not a regionally accredited university? Why not a DETC-accredited university? Why not a California-State Approved University? Why not an offshore, legitimate University? My apologies for all the questions, but why pick a questionable school when a wide array of better options exist? (Such as that Free Open University that I can never remember the name of...)

In the US, it is legal to grant degrees in many states without a license. If you really want a legal degree to call yourself a doctor, you can use the Dr title with a diploma from Universal Church

---------> For me, I don't support a system that gives to much feedom to a person to talk, to sue, to issue useless documentations to harm others. I prefer ours.

---------> Even if degrees from this organization are legal, they don't meet the field/sector I am interested in.

It's just because very few institutes have the field I am interested in (Tourism Studies). There are such two universities in Australia but they are TOO expensive. One is in India (IGNOU) but its enrolment has not been active for more than two years at least (the time I have contacted them). This is my target university because they have the right field I like and the tuition is affordable (US$1,000/year X 2-3 years + few times to flight to India)An alternative is going with DBA degree (in Vietnam or in Malaysia or US institutes) with a concerntration in Tourism Management (like my MBA), but I don't want to involve too much in Business/Economics. I want a PhD in Tourism Studies, not a DBA/Tourism Management.
If you see a legal institute that satisfies my expectation, please let me know at once! Thanks in advance for your kind action!
NOTE: Pls do NOT advise me taking Doctorates in other fields such as Divinity, Metaphysics, Education...
My thanks to all of you.

I was looking for another item altogether when I came across this site related to tourism – and strangely enough sponsored by the University of California at Berkeley
    http://www.tourismstudies.org/about.htm
Notice that most of the working group members and colloquia presenters have academic credentials in areas other than tourism; art history, anthropology, culture, international studies, near east studies, music, and religion to name a few.
This demonstrates that you can be involved in tourism with degrees other than tourism studies.

    1. http://www.tourismstudies.org/Visiting_Scholars.htm from UC Berkeley says: .........................................................................................
    A NOTE REGARDING FUNDING
The Tourism Studies Working Group does not have funds available to support post-doctoral researchers or visiting scholars. In the past, visiting scholars have secured funding from academic, governmental, and private foundations.
    2. This is the original last reply from IGNOU to me:

    Dear Le Viet Long,

As of now, the admission for the Ph. D Programme have been stop.
It will be updated in the wesite along with the application form and

In short, I believe I am an expert in finding information on the field "PhD in Tourism Studies". I have followed this work for two years and I am proud of managing to get answered by IGNOU several times.

Thank you so much for all the post. I think we can stop my thread. I can manage to find my way in the context of my own situation.
    Best wishes,

Agreed as to the topic aspects, one might even add anthropology to those. I'm wondering, also, though, might this not also fall under, possibly, hospitality?

I don't believe he is a troll. He has been a member here for some time and doesn't post often. He has asked simmilar questions before about different ptograms and even once asked about adjuncting for undergrad programs. Unfortunately, he hasn't received very much information in response to any of his questions, including here. So, I believe his reaction is understandable.

Simply, in order for a board to serve your needs, it needs to be a good match. This is a DISTANCE LEARNING forum, not a degree mill forum. I know there are many other degree mill-loving forums out there, perhaps he'd get more warm and fuzzies if found a board more streamlined with his goals.

Credible distance learning takes the spotlight here, so posts like his piss me off. Why? Because he assumes that because we are "distance learners" we are also degree mill aficionados. This is the kind of stereotype many of us battle already.

    Hi le_vietlong,

It is a "degree mill" and it isn't worth the paper that it's printed on. If you send them money, then you are getting "ripped off."

Degree mills are allowed to exist in the United States. If you are going to get an American degree, then I suggest any college or university that has "regional accreditation" because it is the gold standard i.e. it is considered to be valid throughout the United States.

An inferior accreditation in the United States is "Distance Education and Training Counsel" or DETC for short. It is recognized by the United States Department of Education, but it is still considered inferior to regional accreditation.

I hope this clarification helps you. :)
