Dear DegreeInfo Public, I am interested in finding out if it is possible to view online classes on a mobile device. I experimented with opening BlackBoard on my Blackberry curve with Opera Mini. FAIL! It doesn't work. Has anyone tried this as well? Are there any combinations of phones/operating systems/browsers that work with any of the different online clasroom platforms (WebCT, Blackboard, etc.). Also, since I have not taken an online class (minus Excelsior's Info. Lit. Requirement): is there much audio/visual media included to most online classes, or, is it mostly text, like my limited experience seems to suggest. Thank You.
These should work: WebKit browsers (same as Chrome, Safari): Android iPhone Palm WebOS Presto browsers (same as Opera): Opera Mobile for Windows Mobile, Symbian I've tried Blackboard and ANGEL on Android and it is fine, as it should be, given the browser it basically exactly the same as desktop WebKit. Opera Mini is not the same as Opera desktop and Opera Mobile. It uses an alternate rendering path on devices that can't handle the "full" version. Blackberry doesn't have a good browser at the moment, but it looks like that will be fixed this year with a WebKit upgrade.
AMU has a mobile version of its course software. I've logged into courses to check grades or read posts from my iPhone many times. I would never post from it unless I had to, however, as I want to make sure my posts are scholarly and professional. It's too hard for me to do that from a cell phone.
I can login to UMUC's WebTycho and use most of the features via my Palm Pre. It's useful when I'm away from a computer and want to read the discussion boards or check for an assignment grade.
My experience so far (60% completion in early May) with Tarleton State’s online MBA program has been text delivery only thru Blackboard©; not necessarily innovative or remarkable, essentially a lock-step conventional outreach program, devoid of audio /visual, and purely text delivered via the www. However, Tarleton does offer additional online programs in other disciplines so I can’t speak to those … only the MBA. P.S. My comments relate presently to the delivery methodology, not the MBA program curriculum, instructional or student support quality.
I can access Blackboard via my Android smartphone. I have posted discussion board threads and replies via my phone's web browser. BTW, I sometimes post to this forum using my cell phone, although it is difficult to insert URLs (copy/paste is not very intuitive).
That's the best format in my opinion. It's more efficient and accessible. Look at this message board. It's very basic yet we exchange a huge amount of information efficiently. It's very easy to contribute and you're unlikely to lose your place. Moreover, we can always post links to any other websites without clogging this site with big media files. Two other low tech examples of efficiency are Craigslist and the Drudge Report.
Agree I agree with you there. Craigslist is a modern marvel of condensation. To add to that, the world's greatest novels are all full of... words! Back to the point at hand, I am actually planning on downgrading my service severely, so I am wondering if one of Boost Mobile's or MetroPCS's phones can open one of the aforementioned electronic classroom platforms?
