Personally, I loved his post. He launched into a tirade, then wished us "all the best." Hopefully he got some catharsis out of it (look it up).

On the other hand, someone who doesn't know how to break up a psychotic tirade into paragraphs doesn't deserve a doctorate. But I, too, wish him all the best.

    Thanks for the entertainment, John.

Sorry for your troubles. I hope your little rant helped you to feel better. But let's look at this objectively. On the one hand we have an anonymous newbie who has some (maybe) legitimate complaints (after all, we've only heard one version of this story) and then we have a big university that has awarded maybe thousands of PhDs. Some of those recipients are members here at DegreeInfo, all of them pretty happy with their degree and experience at Capella. So what's the takeaway? Caveat Emptor? Proceed with caution? Always good advice. Best of luck.

I just hope we don't have Theodore Streleski - Redux.

My company has a bit of a love affair with Capella. They are a preferred school for tuition assistance and we have a number of managers (and a few executives) with graduate degrees from there. None of them have expressed a negative opinion about the school to me.

That said, there are cheaper options and some pretty good names in DL these days. So Capella is an option but I would do some shopping before I ever committed to the school.

    A few questions:

    1. Did Capella grant an exception for you to attend eight years, since the maximum time in the doctoral program is seven years? Can I Study for A Doctoral Degree Part-Time? | Capella University Blog

    2. Can you share with us why a 12 week process (the SMR) took two years: Transcript I mention this because it appears that you only have three opportunities to compete the SMR. Some insight on this is appreciated: http://campustools.capella.edu/bbcourse_production/dissertation_courseroom/soe/soe_diss_m03_researchplan_qual_form.docx.

    3. When you attended Capella (both online and at colloquia), how many professors did you network with? I ask this question because I had my dissertation committee ready to go - I selected them based on my class interactions and colloquia experiences. Had my mentor left, I would have asked another faculty member to step in. Now, I graduated in Spring 2010, so it might have changed. What choice did you have with faculty selection?
