Yes, I believe that she is still a part of things (in San Diego).

As I understand it, aside from revamping the website and related programs that this may be a primary first step towards guiding CPU towards an accreditation effort too.

New ownership, new objectives … (?).

My visit to California Pacific University

I stopped by the Pinole, California campus yesterday. An exciting 100-second video of my visit appears here.

Evidently an unimpressed physical visit. Thanks for your effort and YouTube post.

Dr. Bear’s YouTube post doesn’t bode well in my view regarding legitimate effort toward recognized accreditation by California Pacific University. Of course the accreditation subject was merely conjecture anyway.

Bottom-line, the Pinole, CA strip center location video submitted by Dr. Bear was, to say the least … quite unimpressive as regards CPU. For an institution (business) that’s been around since 1976 (CA Approved since 1977 – when CA private postsecondary institutional approval perhaps meant something (e.g., State Dept. of Education’s Council for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education /CPPVE re CPEC http://www.altcpualumni.org/chronicles/cpeccpu1990.pdf)) – exclusively specializing in business academics (bachelor to doctorate degree levels) … could seemingly use advisement beyond merely upgrading the Website.

I recall some time back on this thread that former DegreeInfo poster (Dr. Rich Douglas) once mentioned to the effect that when Dr. Dalton goes … so likely will CPU (e.g., no true succession plan in place (?)).

I agree, the "new and improved" website looks a hell of a lot more impressive than does the Pinole strip store location. I spoke to the San Diego location and they were surprised that the new site was up and running as it is still a work in progress and that the site was suppossed to be down until the new site was fully completed. They did indicate that CPU (as a whole) was moving 600 miles from the San Diego area to Pinole (slowly but surely) over the next several weeks. I guess only time will tell.

    "...Dr. Dalton did pass away..."

I have wondered if Charles Dalton was related to the long-time owner-operator of Newport University, Theron (Ted) Dalton? Otherwise, quite a coincidence that the long-time heads of two California-licensed unaccredited schools should be named Dalton. (Ted, incidentally, did not start Newport. He um-acquired it from founder Reg Sheldrick, who went on to start the now-DETC-accredited Southwest University.) (As it happens, I met each Dalton and Sheldrick one time each. Quite liked two of 'em.)

I believe Newport is now known as Janus University, I'm not sure about the "Dalton" connection at Janus though.

Per the Janus University Website … you’re correct.

Spoke to a representative yesterday who stated that CPU is in fact going through some BIG changes including a new look and new direction that includes accreditation effort with the DETC. It's still quite ealier to tell just how long and far these changes will bring CPU however it certainly sounds promising...to me anyway.

Sounds good to me too. I'm on the lookout for some reasonably priced Master's programs as that is coming up before much longer. They probably won't have finished DETC accreditation by the time I'm ready to start, but maybe at midpoint they'll be a viable transfer option.

    How about calcoast.edu?

Yep. Current plan (mind you, I keep changing it) is to take a few courses with CalCoast prior to transferring elsewhere. Unfortunately, I'm not enamored enough with their programs or their name to finish the whole degree with them. There are some decent RA options I could transfer into as well (e.g. APU, TUI). At the moment, I have to confess I like Columbia Southern's programs, so transferring there will be an option as well.

Having second thoughts, Dr. Bear? It's OK - you're entitled! :) 10 years ago: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/970-california-pacific-university.html

John Bear: "I am even persuaded that founder-owner Charles Dalton has no connection with Newport owner Theron 'Ted' Dalton."

BTW - I haven't been able to discover any family connection. Then again, in that thread you mention you've met both Daltons. I haven't.

And another quote from Dr. Bear re: 2 Drs. Dalton

    Dr Bear:

May I remind you of another quote:

"Dalton, incidentally, is unrelated, I am pretty sure, to the Theron 'Ted' Dalton, long time owner of Newport." - John Bear, 2007

    It's here: http://www.degreeinfo.com/accreditation-discussions-ra-detc-state-approval-unaccredited-schools/26850-california-pacific-university-no-more.html

After expressing opinions (at least twice) to the contrary in 2001 and 2007, do you now suspect the two Drs. Dalton may be related after all? I'm mystified.
