http://www.uopeople.org/ University of the People - currently not accredited http://www.aju.edu/ Andrew Jackson University - DETC accredited, sponsored tuition
AJU is not free, even with the sponsored tuition. I enrolled under the sponsored tuition plan and paid about $400 for the semester, plus books. It's still a great deal.
Well, technically there is no such thing as a "free" school. Even University of the People charges a small test fee for each class.
Not at present; all fees are waived according to the information on the web site of University of the People.
Sometimes you get what you pay for. It's very dicey pointing someone towards a "sckool" that is free unless you have first person knowledge. There are desperate people all over the world seeking even the smallest advantage. Are you sure that you've made a solid recommendation?
Personally, I would choose UNISA for a degree that is going to be used for employment purposes and if cost is the limiting factor. In the case of the person who started this thread there is the added bonus that UNISA is in his/her home continent. The university awards scholarships as well. In its present state the University of the People might be fine for someone who is only seeking an education for personal knowledge since the University of the People does NOT award degrees at this time. The school has decided to wait until they achieve accreditation. From the University of the People web site, "At present, UoPeople is not an accredited institution. University of the People plans to apply for accreditation and for authorization from recognized agencies and authorities in accordance with the rules, regulations and relevant timelines of those agencies and authorities. Therefore, UoPeople does not presently confer degrees. At present, our programs offer a new learning experience similar in their scope to academic studies towards four degrees: An Associate and B.Sc. in Computer Science and an Associate and B.A. in Business Administration. These programs may in the future lead towards undergraduate degrees. However, no degrees will be granted until the university obtains proper authorization from relevant authorities."
Contact the various embassies/consulates in your country to see if they have scholarships available. You might want to look at OUM - their tuition might be attractive. http://www.oum.edu.my/oum/index.php?c=oum&v=main&domid=1&lang=eng
Why not apply for scholarship in some organization? You are looking for a good University which means you have some previous record of studying. I suggest you submit your transcripts and other related documents to organizations such as Bright Future scholarship and see what you can get from there. The cheapest might not provide the best quality of education and because of that, you might lose your one of the most important assets - TIME!
