Proctored vs Touro U

I'm seriously looking at Touro U to complete my BSCS. One of the driving forces in selecting Touro is the format which doesn't require formal testing. Instead, you have projects to submit.

I would think that finding a proctor, having to go to him/her to take exams, then experiencing the stress of the exams would be just more stress piled on top of the schooling experience itself. Are my fears justified?

Touro's program looks interesting to me. Not the cheapest but far from the most expensive as well. They also seem to be the ONLY school offering a BSCS without proctored exams.

Some people handle exam stress well; others not. I can't help you there.

Both Touro and Capella are excellent choices but I am inclined to favor a not-for-profit academic institution (Touro i.e.)

I was admitted to Capella in 1998 but chose Touro mainly for this reason. In retrospect, I think I made the right decision.

Kevin, I am three courses shy of the BS in IS at UMass Lowell and none of my courses has required a proctor. One or two of the IS courses are noted on the website as requiring proctored exams but they are in the minority. Exams and midterms are all part of the package but they are conducted online as open book tests. I was able to transfer in 90 general education credits thus I can't speak to that end of the program.

My "day job" is a psychologist and I would like to add that if test anxiety is a factor in your choice of schools this is a very treatable condition.

 

The stress I speak of isn't really in taking the test itself but having to schedule the test, getting there at whatever time to take the test, dealing with the proctor, etc. Sure it's treatable... don't do it. I'm very busy as it is and taking classes is just going to make my *free* time shorter, but I'd rather boot some of my other daily tasks and get my degree. That's my main reason for liking the way Touro approaches testing.

Touro Univeristy

I too am a Touro University student. I am working on my BSITM and I really enjoy their format. Besides being able to communicate with other students via "threaded discussions" and how easy it is to communicate with the professors, i really like the fact their are no additional charges for books, they are supplied in CD-ROM format.

I will probably continue on to a graduate program upon completion of my BSITM degree.
