How much do you use your cellphone? (yep - they cause brain tumors!)

    Canada has the same thing.

I agree with cell phone recycling - if you no longer use it, donate it.

Now do your girls turn their phones off when going to sleep, or have it set to vibrate for texts and place them under their pillow (as the article said)?

    use cell to save money

I took the plunge a while back with my wife. No, not just getting married, but joint cell phones. I had a landlline and cell phones then. We then experimented with not using a landline and JUST cellphones. It saved a lot of money as I was paying 50 to 75 dollars a month depending on the landline plan I had at the time or the Ldisance plans. Longstory sort of short, I love it. I get all of my calls, even while out. It is very convenient and saves in the process. Everyone please use headsets when driving if you have to use it then! And no texting while driving. One guy driving a bus was texting and crashed the bus!

In the Los Angeles area not so long ago a commuuter train driver was texting, missed a signal, and hit another train head on. Some passengers were killed along with the driver.

I dropped the land line about three years ago. This stopped most unwanted calls and saves money.

I heard this news before. It will not create any problem if you talk on cell pone for around 30 minutes a day. If you stick to cell phone for hours together than you are at a high risk of brain tumor

hey maybe this is slightly off-topic but i'm in a position to get rid of my land line and just use my cell. I'm not a big telephone user and so i can't see paying for both. how many people out there use their cell as their only phone? what are the pros and cons? i'm thinking of going with the att bundle. any comments?

I was avoiding this thread but let me be the first to tell you not to get rid of your landline in favor of a wireless or VoIP phone. In an emergency wireless/VoIP are not as protected as a landline. When Katrina hit, the BellSouth central office continued to work despite over half a building being under water. Telephone Central Offices are protected by generators and battery backup and are the only reliable source for emergencies that are accessible by the general public.

Most carriers oversell their capacity so that when you most need a network it will most likely be beyond capacity. You will also have to deal with folks who can preempt public networks, including wireless, when needed in an emergency, so even if you can get a call out you might not have long to talk.

If you want to save money but still maintain some level of security then get with your neighbors and have at least one of them maintain a landline and share the costs. You can use FRS radios to avoid a lack of communication between your houses in the event of an emergency. Folks in a rural area should really look at their emergency preparation.

There are so many other considerations but let me suggest you figure out how important it would be to make a call if faced with a catastrophe. Use your own risk tolerance to decide if the savings is worth it.

I already mentioned that I got rid of my land line and what the main advantages are from my perspective, fewer solicitous calls and save a few bucks each month. The previous poster has a point. I thought I should mention that in the big San Diego fires a couple years ago, they evacuated my neighborhood. I never received a call informing me because I don't have a landline.
