How much do you use your cellphone? (yep - they cause brain tumors!)

I have only glanced at the report but I am somewhat skeptical about it. Nothing on the authors, although here is the top web site
    http://www.radiationresearch.org/
Anyone can put up a web site and publish reports on line - what are the authors motives here?

[For what it is worth I am not convinced that cell phones are totaly safe - mine says to keep 5/8" away from your body when turned on.]

    Cellphoone? What is a cellphone?

    :p

I don't own one, don't want one and frankly think people talking in them so much look idiotic I don't care to overhear your conversations.

..did you miss the list of people commencing on page 3 and finishing on page 5?

Yes I saw the list which helped fuel my skepticism (note I'm a skeptic and not a cynic) - in a scientific report why are politicians, lawyers, and a fireman (a profession of which I have high esteem) included? To me the inclusion of this list seems like an attempt to make the report more persuasive to the general public and media.

I have a cell phone only for emergencies. I use it maybe once or twice a week. All other calls I make from home or work. I buy $100.00 worth of minutes, and that lasts me a year or more. No contract.

My parents always call me on the cell phone. Not sure why they never use the land line. (Yes, I've had brain tumor surgery. So has Dad.)

Interesting - glad you were able to come out of it alright... I trust you've read the report, what are your thoughts? Particularly in terms of the location of the tumor combined with the side you most frequently use to talk on (if you don't mind my asking)?

I usually hod my cell phone on the left side whereas my brain tumor was in my right temporal lobe. Further, my brain tumor surgery was in 1986, long before I got a cell phone. Dad's brain tumor was on his left side, but I don't know which side he usually holds his cell phone on. His brain tumor surgery was in 1999, but I can't say that I remember when he got his cell phone.

I insisted on getting my mom a pay-as-you-go cell phone, to which she objected. I told her to just leave it in her car. The very first week she had the phone her car broke down. Instead of walking or waiting she called AAA right from her car. She still doesn't use it much, but at least now she sees the value.

Yup, pay as you go is perfect for that kind of stuff. I had a tire blow out last week and AAA was there in 10 minutes. I have a case that I use on my belt, so if there is an emergency, someone can get a hold of me. Anyone that knows me well calls me at home or the office. A lot of times, my minutes roll over because I do not use them all. It is good to have a cell. I would never get a contract though.

I can get those examples of emergency, directly work related or short calls, but I hate people that talk and talk and talk like I care to listen. And now they have those that fit over the ear it sounds like some crazy person talking to themselves unless I see it. And since I take a wheelchair around oddly those driving while talking a hand needed cellphone scare the crap out of me one almost hit me at a crosswalk the other day and yes I HAD the right of way.

Oddly the same parents that do that are afraid of a cell phone tower at a local school that was proposed, the school would get a good deal of money they need, due to the "dangers". The same folks with a cell phone nearly implanted into their heads. (sigh)

The part i love is in the grocery store:

"Honey? Yeah honey, it's me. Should I get the Capt. Crunch or the Fruit Loops?"

    Do you believe that stuff?

Yeah - What gets me is when some joker in a bar uses his cellphone to call the bartendress and order his drink.

I hate it when someone talks really loudly on a cell phone in an airport. Everyone is sitting around waiting for at their gate to start loading the plane and you have to be subjected to hearing someone's entire conversation. It aggravates me soooooo much. If it is a business call it isn't quite so bad. But when they are discussing ridiculous stuff it is enraging to have to listen to it - and you can't help overhearing it unfortunately.

I have 3 teenage girls and I have seen them shift almost entirely to texting rather than use of the phone. It surprises me just how little they talk on the phone. Kids text them on their phones even when we are at home and the land line is available. I am certain that we will begin to see more and more repetitive motion injuries due to the texting - depending on the keyboard used of course.

Just thought I would make you folks aware that you do not have to have a subscribed phone to make 911 calls from a cellular phone (in the US):

    FCC Wireless Telecommunications Act

"Under its revised rules, covered wireless carriers will be required to transmit all wireless 911 calls (from both subscribers and non-subscribers) to emergency assistance providers operating Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). The FCC believes that assuring prompt delivery of emergency 911 calls, without delay, promotes safety of life and property."

Now you know why old cell phones should be donated and not trashed as they can be provided to those in need.
