    Hi Everyone!
I am a long time reader of this message board, but I just finally registered. I am looking to start a masters program in international relations. Cheaper is better though quality of instruction is most important. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Leicester, offers four DL Master's programs, including MA International Relations and World Order.

Stated tuition is £5650 (9,291.03 USD according to xe.com today) though this could be only for UK and EU students. I have not been in contact with the Department of Politics and International Relations, but I have had contact with Leicester's School of Archaeology and Ancient History which also offers DL programs and they are extremely helpful and seem to be very serious about their DL programs, so you should not hesitate to contact Leicester and confirm details. Those DL programs which I looked at tend to be 15-20% more expensive for international students (which is a great deal considering tuitiom fees for internationals tend to be much higher then home fees in other UK universities), but you should check with Department of Politics and International Relations on their own policies regarding tuition and fees.

University of Leicester is ranked among the top 20 universities in UK.

    hello calpal,

I've also been looking for a good distance learning graduate degree in International Relations/Affairs. Of all the ones I've looked into I have narrowed it down to these universities: Troy University, University of Leicester (UK), Macquarie University (Australia) and North Georgia State University (this is a new program they are offering). I have left out private universities such as Salve Regina or American Military universities because I have a higher degree of confidence in brick and mortar state universities offering distance learning degrees.

If you're interested in writing a thesis then you'd have to go with University of Leicester. Personally I prefer the other three options since they include many more courses as part of the degree and no thesis. The most expensive one seems to be Macquarie and North Georgia, the cheapest. Keep in mind that both, Troy and North Georgia have a strong history of providing education to the military which might be a good thing in order to offer an International Affairs degree.

There's also Texas A&M graduate certificate in IA but it is quite expensive for only four courses, and you can only do one course per year.

I hope this helps, I'm also trying to decide which route to go in order to start august 2010!

let me know how your search goes!

I'm considering North Georgia State University. It seems pretty good, combining coursework and a final project, which I prefer over Troy's final exam. With a final project, it is easier to show some of your work to prospective employers...

Let me know how your search is going!

Syracuse University www.syr.edu offers an MSSc degree with a dual concentration and the three avaialable concentrations are History, Political Science, and International Relations.

Help me, someone! Didn't I see something about some famous school in the Great State of Massachusetts - like maybe Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University - going DL with their IR programs?

I'll go back into the archives and see if I, the historian, can go back into the archives and dig up some old International Relations and Political Science threads.

Distance Learning: MIR @ University of Leicester or Macquarie Univerisity????

    Hello everyone

A quick question please I have been accepted to study a Masters of International Relations via Distance Learning at both University of Leicester (UK) and Macquarie University (Australia). Which of the two do you think has the better reputation and is best set up to teach via distance learning.

Look forward to your thoughts and thanks very much.

Fletcher offers a couple of classes online to enrolled students, but I haven't heard anything about them offering the entire program in a distance format.

  13. Fletcher's GMAP. Six weeks of residency (three two-week sessions) with the remainder online. Tuition is $65000. On the bright side, that includes room & board during the residencies, all fees, books, and a notebook computer.

Admission requirements include eight years of professional experience and second-language proficiency.

I imagine that this is a "niche" program.

Webster University offers a great Masters in International Relations program, as well. All online.
