I'll give that a try. I also don't see a listing of courses for this degree on their web site, either.

I did email FHSU and asked if they would be opening up enrollments for their MLS in Communications/Public Relations degree, and received a response that the contact listed is no longer the chair of the communications department. I informed them that they are still listed as the point-of-contact on the school's web site. The current chair is out of the office until later this week. The former chair did indicate that enrollment had been closed due to the large number of students currently enrolled in the program. It seems to me FHSU is a little overwhelmed with the popularity of some of their DL offerings. Unfortunate, because that program would have been perfect for me.

Anyone know of any other Master of Liberal Studies programs available by DL which have a Communications or "design your own concentration" option?

Right now, Sheffield-Hallam, National University and Marist College are front-runners due to cost and course options in their programs.

What about Golden Gate University? It's a B&M university here in San Francisco and they have a Master in Integrated Marketing Communications.

I did look at Golden Gate, but it's too expensive. A graduate degree there would cost me nearly $34,000.

Too bad. Golden Gate seems a nice school.

How much is the University of Leicester program? I couldn't find the information without registering (I HATE that). Of your list, that's the strongest name, even though is not an american institution.

As a side note, I'd like to point out that I'm taking (on campus) the "Professional Sequence in Integrated Marketing Communication" at UC Berkeley Extension - and the program is awesome (and really cheap).

And you can take the same classes online (4 classes for the sequence certificate).

Maybe you would be interested in that for your resume.

The University of Leicester program was about $14,000 the last time I looked.

I haven't ruled out a certificate, but would really like to find a master's degree program.

I have narrowed down my choices to:

    University of Leicester
    Sheffield-Hallam University
    National University

Price play a choice in my short list, but the curriculum was a huge factor. Each of these programs has the courses/modules that would do me the most good in my profession. Although I live in the U.S., there are two UK schools on the list, which I don't think will hold me back in any way. In fact, "studying aboard" may actually be seen as a plus, since the world of communications is become so global these days.

Of these choices, which university would you suggest? Feedback and advice welcomed.

I say go with the American school. Buy a GM car or truck while you at it. lol

    I enjoy your blogs man.

    I would go with Leicester.

On another note, if you're doing the program as a DL I hope you wouldn't attempt to spin that as "studying abroad". That would be less than honest unless there is a residency requirement/component to the program. Beyond that, employers could catch on pretty quick with a simple once over of your resume/CV. How would explain being a student in the UK while working a job somewhere in the continental United States?

No, I was actually joking about "studying abroad." :D

    Thanks, Lawrence.

I'm glad you enjoy the blogs. I'm actually working on building another one, and I have a book in the works, too. The book is not related to DL.

I'd go with your UK options. Your american one doesn't come even closer in terms of reputation.

I almost forgot...Heriot Watt has a MSc in Marketing that I'm considering as well. Total cost around $14,000. Anyone know of a US-based MS in Marketing that may be less expensive from a "name" school?

The closest thing I can think of is an ALM in Journalism from Harvard Extension. You could do 2 of your non-journalism electives in Marketing or Communications in Business and them add two other marketing or communication in business grad classes for a Citation in one of those areas.

(Actually I'm thinking in doing this myself - would be a nice addition to my MFA)

I would do this, but I believe this degree can not be done totally by DL. There are some on-campus requirements which I cannot do.
