I still need one RA math class

    Ok, here's an update:

The instructor, Mr. Rutledge, could provide no relief for me directly. He did, however, tell me to write the Dean of Math and the Math Chair at SPC and ask them if they could help. The dean wrote me back and told me she was meeting with the chair that day and would attempt to provide me some sort of answer.

Later on Friday the chair called me and told me that it may not be too difficult to get me enrolled in the MGF 1107 class I would need to complete my degree. It was late in the day on Friday, however, so he asked me to fax my transcript from 1980-1981 at Hillsborough Community College. I faxed it over to him along with a copy of my transfer credit report from SPC showing that my MGF 1202 was transferred in to SPC as MGF 1106.

He told me he'd work on my case on Monday. I'm hoping that this will be a "go" now, because registration for the summer term opens on April 1st.

That's great news. I was so disappointed and surprised that you hadn't heard from Professor Rutledge. He was so accommodating with my son, so I'm glad you heard from him even if he couldn't "directly" help you. It sounds promising and like it will work out. Thanks for the update!

    UPDATE!

I just received a call from the Math Chair at SPC and was told that he has reviewed my case and evaluated my transcripts and has agreed to manually enroll me directly in MGF 1107 when registration begins on April 1. I simply have to look up the class info and e-mail it to him once open enrollment starts.

    YAY!

This is the only thing that stands between me and earning my AA degree. Thanks to you guys for all your help, and thanks to SPC for getting me in.

Great news! If you need any help on the assignments, send me an email. I have saved all my son's assignments and papers and grades. You might also want to write Professor Rutledge a follow-up, thanking him for his help, and ask if you can get a copy of the syllabus/class schedule. :) Sometimes he posts them online. You could always get started on the work early before class starts--which is what my son did. Also, some of the projects involve several weeks so you might want to start those at the beginning of the semester.

If you have the ISBN of the book, I could see if his text is still current. If so, you're welcome to use it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had already e-mailed Rutledge and thanked him for his help and told him to look for me in his class this summer.

    Hey mom:

Here's what Mr. Rutledge sent me...

"Math Is Everywhere! Explore and Discover It!"--Third Edition--James J. Rutledge
"Riddles for Fun and Profit: The Heart of Mathematical Thinking"--James J. Rutledge

    Kendall Hunt Publishing, 2008.
    Course PAK ISBN: 978-0-7575-5384-4

I have both. Same book though I don't remember my son using the riddle book. The ISBN is different--probably because they're packaged as a set through Kendall. I do have the third edition.

Professor Rutledge designed the course and uses his own text. It's actually pages in a 3 ring binder. Don't be overwhelmed because he does NOT assign every problem in each assignment. Also be sure and use the Appendix with helps and hints for the exercises and projects.

You're welcome to borrow them. Just send me a PM and I'll give you my address/phone number and we can make arrangements.

Did I mention that one of the worse things about the course was naming the files? Each one had a specific file name. Some of the grades were based on the 'answers' put in the file name.

Here's a question. I am a current FHSU student. When I finish this semester on May 5th I will have 101 of the 124 credits needed to graduate with my BGS degree with a concentration in business and a certificate in leadership studies. I transfered into FHSU, previously I've taken Math Modeling 1101 at Georgia State University, and Quantitative Stats QMB 350 at AIU Online. FHSU is allowing my previous math work to count toward total credits needed for graduation, but not to meet their general ed requirements. However, if I took college algebra they would count, and go a long way toward helping me meet the natural science requirements. Could I take the college algebra class at Straighterline and then transfer it back to FHSU as a current student? I'd much rather take the course at my own pace and not have to worry that if I fail on the first try I will ruin my GPA so close to graduation. I don't see anywhere where it says you can't take a straighterline course as a current FHSU student, but I don't see anything that says you can either.

Yes. The only requirement for transfer is that you have been accepted to FHSU. You can also retake Algebra, but it will average with your previous attempt.
