What kind of work is required from a 100% online university?

Many potential online learners wonder what kind of work they'll be required to submit, if they enroll at Northcentral University, so here is a real NCU paper for you to look at. It shows the general format of what's expected, to include their cover sheet, APA formatting and numerous references. Enjoy!

I am losing you right here, can you elaborate the purpose of this posting, and the reason(the real reason) you posted this assignment. Are you teaching for NCU now?

Maybe I am in the wrong here, but I am sensing a discomfort position from your last several posts, I can relate to your position(to one point), but what I do not understand the posting of such assignment with apparently no permission from the student, this is not public information, unless the student gave you this to post and I don't see a disclaimer (unless this is you). If I am incorrect, you are welcome to correct me and to clarify, I certainly do not want to see my assignments (regardless the reasons) without my permission.

    Nothing nefarious

Relax. :) It's posted so that those who've never done online work can see some online work. Nothing more and nothing less. No, I don't work for NCU. LOL --> I'm just a graduate.

Since it's posted by the student for all the world to see, it's not a violation on his part, unless he decides to sue himself?

I appreciated the post, thanks. I am considering NCU so it was nice to see what type of format the school uses.

    You bet!

Before I entered the world of online learning, I had no idea what to expect; and I suspect that holds true for today for those who are considering enrolling in an online program. Potential students would like to have a general idea of what to expect before they jump into the pond! ;)

Every online university is a little bit different, but in the end, almost all of them rely on writing in order to succeed. You'd better become familiar with APA formatting.

As a side note, I am becoming mostly a lurker and reader on the internet. I now read 99.9% with very little posting. Why? Because it seems too easy to accidentally offend people. I don't like offending people; I do enough of that in real life. LOL

    All the best to you.

    Thanks for the clarification also.

I did note that first person grammar was used in your paper - some professors or schools mandate papers be writted in the 3rd person. I mention this so students know to ask their professors about tense before starting writing.

You're absolutely right! I too tell students not to use the words I, me or my when writing college papers.

I guess once am done with mine, I will do the same, is too easy to offend people I agree. Sorry, for all the fuzz, but I did not want to give ammunition to others that look in this forum and go to other forums to gossip the wrong things.

I read the paper and must say that I would expect a much better paper from what appears to be a doctoral student (and educator according to the paper)...some grammar issues and some of the explanations / rationales provided could have been written much better.

That paper is a complete piece of garbage. It literally looks like a sophomore in high school wrote it. "my", "I" etc are big no-no's when writing a college paper. Even my english 101 prof would have handed that piece of trash back to me only to be re-written.

Why are you on this forum? This is the second thread I read in which you chimed in long enough to leave a negative reply and basically down a poster.

After reviewing your other posts I see that you have yet to offer anything of substance to this community. What gives? Are you young and feel that this is the best way to get attention? I'm just curious why your here in the first place? Just an honest question.

When you are are the doctor level and unless you have mayor in English, linguistic writing and other fine arts of writing, the process will be a learning pain, I am not perfect and for such I hire editors to review my papers, with that said, you cannot be perfect and if you do, prepare yourself to be in a dissertation road for a long time, this paper does not seem to be a graded paper with the mentors comments, ultimately the authority in evaluating a student's work are those with the proper training and credentials.

It seems to me that papers should be well-written regardless of whether a program is DL or B&M. The course delivery medium is pretty much irrelevant. The same writing standards apply either way.

    So what does 'well-written' mean?

Comparable to typical professional writing in your field, I guess. When I'm writing a class paper, I usually try to loosely emulate the style, vocabulary and general academic-level of the assigned course readings and of the better-written academic papers that I've read.

You don't need to be an English major to prepare a paper with proper use of grammar and sentence structure. I'm far from perfect (there is no such thing as perfection, afaic) but before handing in papers I ensure that the basics are covered...
