    Greetings,

I am currently certified to teach after doing the program at WGU.

Based on some of the comments here I have to ask about DETC certification. I am looking at Harrison Middleton Uni. as part of the Ed.D. or D.A. Program.

Since I am already certified will these degrees count for lane and the other bonuses from the state? Or is the DETC a worthless accreditation for teaching.

    Thank You

    Charles,

The state of Tennessee lists the following on the official website:

An individual who holds an additional degree from a regionally accredited institution shall be granted the degree for salary purposes if the degree indicates by the nature of the courses that public education was the primary aim.

    http://www.state.tn.us/education/lic/add.shtml

I cannot say what rules apply for other states and whether or not TN makes stipulations.

    Charles,

Just curious, did you ask your employer (future employer) about accepting a DETC accredited degree?

    Welcome to the board.

Does anyone know of a state that will take DETC degree for teaching? I know Wisconsin doesn't...

Under FAQ, I see accredited universities, but I do not ( with the link provided) see DETC

    2. Question: If a person is interested in becoming a teacher, but doesn’t have the required content hours, how would the person receive authorization to take a content test for purposes of admission into an educator preparation program?

Answer- Scenario 1- If a person is enrolled in a university initial certification program or a post-baccalaureate program where content courses are required,
the program determines candidate eligibility and issues an approval to test.

Answer- Scenario 2- If a person holds a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (see link below); but is not yet enrolled in an educator preparation program, the Educational Testing Service (ETS) will allow that individual to register for content examinations. The individual can register either online or by calling ETS. A New ETS registration processes and procedures will be available shortly. Odd.

    SD - Accepts

NE - has no clue "To be approved for certification purposes in Nebraska, we require that they be approved by the Nebraska State Board of Education or a similar agency in another jurisdiction - such as the State Board of Education in Arizona or Illinois. "

NJ - Only regionally and lists them by name

I emailed about 1/2 dozen other states and am awaiting replies.

I need to restate: This is NOT for initial teacher certification or for an alternative certification, this is for lane change and moving from 5 year to 10 year type certificate.

I can't imagine a state looking at it in two different ways "It is good for this but not for that."

That being said, Florida does accept DETC for accreditation.

yes they may. I did not see DETC school (and non-RA) that has student teaching. I also did not look hard. (WGU, which I went to, has DETC and RA and student teaching.)

That is why a initial certification may not work other then for an alternative certification. The lane change would be acceptable because you are already certified.
