Which RA agency is most likely to accredit a 100% DL institution, or a school which offers traditional programs as well as 100% DL degrees? NCA for example appears more open to DL than SACS, however, this could be only my perception. It would be interesting to see the statistics per each of the six agencies in terms of how many DL schools/programs each accredits.

  2. Sperling's book describes his problems with WASC and his retreat to NCA territory. Jones, Walden and Capella are accredited by NCA. NCU appears on track to accreditation by NCA. Is this preponderance only because NCA has such a large territory, or because it's more receptive to DL? I suspect the latter, so that's where I would go if I wanted to start a new DL institution. South Dakota here I come!

I can think of few DL schools that have accreditation from one of the other regionals. TESC and Excelsior are Middle States, and Athabasca has applied to Middle States. COSC is New England.

(I have ignored traditional contact universities that also have DL programs.)

  3. I did some digging a few years ago and found the the NORTH CENTRAL has been the most flexible and the WESTERN the most difficult.

    Hope this helps.

If AMU gets accredited, wouldn't it be the first DL-only school to be accredited by the Southern Association? I don't know of any others that are, but I also don't know of any others that have tried.

I believe my undergraduate school (International College) is now offering a couple of DL degrees, although I'm not certain if it's 100% DL. It is covered by SACS.

East Carolina University offers several BS/MS degrees through distance learning and they are accredited by SACS. www.ecu.edu
