    Q. Is DETC accreditation equal to “regional” accreditation?
    A. In every measurable way, yes!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Typical number of accreditation visits: DETC, 1 Regional, 2 or 3
Typical size of accreditation team: DETC, 4 or 5 Regional 7 or 8
Typical length of accreditation visit: DETC, 1 day Regional 2 or 3 days
    Typical length of time from
application to accreditation: DETC, 6-12 months Regional, 36-48 months

What is the typical size of the school being evaluated? Doesn't it take more time and manpower to evaluate large brick and mortar schools?

How about from application to provisional accreditation? Do the regionals award provisional accreditation within 6-12 months?

You're welcomed. Wait until the next accreditation visit to see what happens. Keep your spirits up. There are always alternative options. California Coast University may offer a Psy.D in the future. They do have a psychology masters and NCU accepts Cal Coast credits.

Yup. It is there on the DETC website. But the California University of Technology still needs to be updated.

Thank you, raristud. :) If Cal Southern doesn't garner DETC accreditation in June, I will be enrolling in Northcentral U. If anyone knows a school that offers an accredited PsyD or PHD in psychology for a cheaper price than Northcentral, please post the info here for me. I have searched and Norhcentral is the cheapest I can find. Hopefully Cal Southern will be accredited by June. They are the cheapest.

Meant to say: The California University of Technology website still needs to be updated.

Not sure where this rates on my degree wish list. I'll eventually go there, the big question is when.

They also have an MBA + DBA dual degree program for a total of $26,100. That's probably the best deal for those two degrees, other than UNISA.

Have you ever taken a course from a DETC accredited institution?

Of course this is anecdotal evidence but I took one for the fun of it. In my opinion, the rigor and quality isn't the same as with a regionally accredited institution.

yesss, but the DETC is generally accrediting MUCH smaller schools, so I'm sure one could argue that the amount of time per administrator/instructor/program has a stronger ratio. However, as I have decided, until DETC schools stop requiring RA graduates as their instructors, this group will still have a lot of house cleaning to do. A much more interesting approach for them to take would be to require DL graduates as their instructors... ... however their leadership seems more focused on writing silly letters to our new President..

I have taken many from both and see no real difference, it is much more dependant on the individual instructor and the course.. from my experience anyway..

Hmmm....I have taken courses through both RA and NA schools. I have worked much harder on my NA courses than I ever did on my RA courses. This might be due to the fact that years have passed and I have matured to the point where the courses mean more to me, but I did get very good grades at the RA school. All in all, the rigor is probably about the same, but more importantly I feel that I have LEARNED more during my recent NA studies.

I've taken courses from American Military University back i9n its DETC-only (NA) days and there was nothing "easy" about it compared to the RA schools where I have studied. 1000 pages of reading and 30 pages of writing per graduate course.
