The electives option includes up other areas of study such as business, technology, computers, etc.
How about this DANTES/DSST test - it is something every person does or should have knowledge in:

Check for transferability to your degree before taking any class.

    Questions above previous credits: UPDATE

I wanted to update everyone on my progress. I decided to get an evaluation from Excelsior College also. In the end, I went with EC. I lacked 4 hours for an Assoc of Science degree. 1 hour credit of the Information Literacy that they require and 3 hours of Natural Science/Math. I took the Information Lit class (Eng 103) from Penn Foster College; and just got permission to take Penn Foster College's Physical Science class.

I decided to take the class instead of trying to CLEP Biology or the Natural Science since it has been 30 years since I have taken any science (or math) classes. It wasn't my forte back then!

The cost for the class at PFC was $295, including books and the proctor fee.

One of the main reasons I went with EC was the overall cost factor.

Congratulations on moving forward with the completion of a degree. What are your plans after the Associate of Science degree?

    update

I am working on the Physical Science course. To me, it is very hard since I haven't done math/science since the late '70's. So far I have passed 3 on-line section quizzes (90, 72 and 88). I am working on the chemistry section right now. I don't know if I will be able to pass the timed proctored exam since it takes me so long to do the formulas. I wonder if I'm wasting my time.

What? Do you know how many people WISH they could trade places with you? You are almost done! Quitting, in my opinion, is a waste of time. It says, all the money and brain space you just spent is lost. If you or you family made sacrifices for you to study, then you owe them a grade! There is no "kinda degree" you either get to walk away WITH or WITHOUT one. Is this one exam worth throwing out your entire degree? Work hard on your homework so you have a little wiggle room on this test. (Shhhh...I bombed my biology exam with a 64....but consistently excellent homework was enough to pull me through with a "B" for the course- you can pass too!)

Yes it's hard. No, you don't need a perfect grade. Do your best.

Jennifer, I didn't mean quit as in give up finishing my associates...:) I meant this course and maybe trying to find something else to take. I am going keep on and try to make the best exam grades that I can and then study hard for the proctored exam. Thanks for the pep talk..it really helps to have others say that we can do it when we feel like it's impossible.

    NANA,

just jumping into this thread. I was motivated by your motivation to come back and finish your degree. I wish members of my family would do the same.

then was shocked that you are considering taking an alternate route... this is your last class.... YOU CAN DO IT!!

the last class I took was financial management, the book was very confusing for online learning and I misunderstood just about every formula. I went back to the school's forum and asked if anyone was on the course. Found a study partner and together we got through the class, no perfect score, but got through.

Does PFC have a forum, perhaps you can find a study partner or a tutor.

We are all chearing for you!!!

    Update:

Well, tomorrow I take the final exam in Physical Science. I am really dreading it and "praying hard"! Would be funny, but I'm not laughing. I have an 89 average right now. I honestly do not think I'll be able to move quickly through the questions (doing forumulas, etc.) to pass. I just draw a blank when it comes to forumulas/Math, etc. I don't know what the lowest score is that I can make and still pass the class with PF. I need to pass this so I can finish at Excelsior (they don't take D's either).

Update: I am finished with the Penn Foster Physical Science class. Of all things, I made a 72 in the class. Unfortunately, their grading system puts a 70 to 74 in the "Pass" category but as a "D"; and they won't let ACE transcribe it as a Pass.

So now I'm back to square one trying to decide whether to take something like the DSST Environment etc test; or do another natural science course somewhere.

Now I wish I had gone with TESC.

Bummer. All is not lost, you do have some knowledge -Can you run out and try one of the CLEP exams while the info is fresh? You might still be able to pull credit out of what you know.

You could try writing to PF and ask if they could change it to a "Pass" grade.

I did email asking that; and also sent an email stating that in their policy handbook it states that a grade of 70-74 is a "D", but is "Passing". The person at PFC that emailed me about refusing to have it ACE approved (who was very rude in the email) is not responding back to the emails.

Actually, Jennifer, I've been studying the Biology CLEP for a while. I will try it in a couple of weeks. We'll see what happens then and go from there. I am scheduled to take the DSST Environment one on May 16 if I need to.

I just wanted to update my post. I didn't take the DSST test; and failed the Biology CLEP by 9 points, I think it was. I went on to take Human Anatomy at Clovis CC. Loved it. I passed and got my Associate in Science from Excelsior College.

Thanks. I have not decided what I'm going to do as far as a bachelor's. I may take some legal classes as they would also go towards my CLE's for my legal certification.
